Zija Grapshi
Director and in particular multidimensional actor, performer of the “Puppet Theater”, of the Tirana “Estrade” troupe, of the “Popular Theater” as well as in cinematography.
Holds the title “Merited Artist”

Born on March 19, 1931, in Gjirokaster. Graduated in 1952 at the artistic high school “Jordan Misia” in Tirana. Since 1949, has been a member of the theater group that founded Radio Tirana.

Later Grapshi played roles in the comedy genre where he also took part in the capital’s “Estrada” and was a member of the “Popular Theater” troupe. While for most of the time of his career on stage, he has been associated with the “Puppet theater” of the capital, the place where he has worked for the longest time, about 40 years, since 1951, giving a great help.

About 160 performances of Zija Grapshi are recorded in the “Puppet Theater”, mainly leading roles with which he became beloved by that generation of children. Here we can remember the role of Shveik (1957), that of Ivan the Great (1959), and especially the role of Father Viti in the homonymous part of Violeta Kongo (1987).

His special voice with a characteristic timbre, imitating skills, care to be as natural as possible, as well as a sense of authenticity in the relationship with partners, have been some of his most pronounced interpretive qualities in the creation of animal figures, especially to the bear.

Both in the “Puppet Theater” and in that of “Estrada”, he has always performed roles with a positive attitude, elderly people, wise grandparents, counselors, and lovers.

Likewise, he has been a lecturer at the High Institute of Arts for several years, starting from 1967.

In addition to working as an actor, Grapshi has staged about 20 projects at the National “Puppet” Theater as a director.

Zija Grapshi has also played as an actor in several feature films of Kinostudio, although secondary or episodic roles. Random, both in the Puppet Theatre, as well as in the Estrada Theater and the dramatic one, has performed roles with a positive attitude, elderly people, wise and loving grandfathers, old counselors, hostesses, etc.

In addition to working as an actor, he has staged as a director over 20 projects at the “Puppet Theater”.







He made his film debut in 1971 with a small role in “When a day dawned”. Then he plays and interprets several other roles. The last film he acted in was in “Little Parent” in 1991.

Although he played secondary and episodic roles, he was distinguished by the truth of his acting and his thoughtful, personal behavior, which created uniqueness. in the portrayal of characters.
