Ivone Sanson (1925-2003) well-known Italian cinema actress of the melo-drama genre! The actress was born in Thessaloniki, Greece on August 29, 1925, naturalized as Italian. Her mother was Greek while her father was French with Russian origin. In 1943, her family emigrated to Italy, where Yvonne completed her studies in an institution run by Catholic nuns. With the liberation of Rome, after World War II, she is employed as a model for some tailors in the country. Thanks to her physical aspect, typically Mediterranean, she caught the eye of a producer, thus starting her cinematographic career initially with small roles in films: "La grande aurora" (1946) by Giuseppe Maria Scotese, alongside Rosano Brazi, "Aquila nera" ( 1946) by Riccardo Freda, based on a work by Pushkin, alongside the famous actresses of the time, Gino Cervi and again Rosano Brazi. In 1947, director Alberto Lattuada entrusted her with a leading role as Ginevra Canale in the film "Il delitto di Giovanni Episcopo" acting alongside the great Aldo Fabrizi and Roldano Lupi. With this film, Sanson will start to catch the eye of Italian critics and cinema audiences. A year later, she plays the role of Catherine II of Russia in "Il cavaliere misterioso" directed by Riccardo Freda, together with the actresses Vittorio Gassman, Giana Maria Canale and Maria Mercader. In 1949, the actress will perform the main role in the film of the well-known director Luigji Zampes in "Campane a martello" alongside Eduardo De Filippo and the star Gina Lollobrigida. This year, he performs in the film "L'imperatore di Capri" directed by Luigi Comencini alongside the great Toto. But the turn to success for Yvonne will be the dramatic film "Catene" in 1949, alongside the most popular actor of the time, Amedeo Nazzari, directed by Raffaello Mattarazzo. This film, from the title, will be a big unexpected success from the public. The highest-grossing film for the 1949-50 season brought glory to the "Titanus" film company, revitalizing the Italian genre of the "popular melodrama" film, quite beloved at that time in Italy and elsewhere. Throughout the mid-50s, performing such films of this genre, they make Sanso one of the queens of the melodrama scene. She gains a lot of popularity and also becomes one of the most favorite actresses of the time. Among many films (almost all interpreted by Amedeo Nazzari and the director Raffaello Mattarazzo) we can single out: "Tormento" (1950); "I figli di nessuno" (1951); "Chi e' senza pecato" (1952); "Lathe" (1953); "L'Angelo bianco" (1955); There are also melodrama films by other directors such as "Menzogna"; "Stella dell`India"; "Il prigioniero della montagna"; "Noi peccatori"; "Wanda la peccatrice"; All these films, which were not really appreciated by the cinematographic critics, described as "photo-romances" of the cinema, have on the contrary had a lot of commercial success. Yvonne Sanson has not failed to perform comedy films, even though she is remembered as a dramatic actress. Thus we can mention the films "L`Inaferrabile 12" (1950) by director Mario Mattoli; "Cintura di castita'" (1950) by Camillo Mastrocinque; "Pane, amore e gelosia" (1954) by L. Komencini; "La moglie e' uguale per tutti" (1955) by Giorgio Simonelli etc. From the end of the 50s and during the 60s, her acting career begins. Exactly what was able to evoke tears and emotions in the above-mentioned dramatic films, now no longer reaches an audience interested in other Italian film genres. In fact, two films with A. Nazzari by the same director, Matarrazzo's "L'ultima violenza" (1957) and "Malinconico autunno" (1958) were not successful. Her successes will be completely "forgotten" during the 60s. Movies of the melodrama genre have already gone out of fashion, in which she was the undisputed queen. Her career is poor. In 1958 he returned to Greece to perform a film that was never shown in Italy. Her last role as a protagonist will be marked here. In the future, he will perform only secondary and small roles in which the films are remembered: "I Masnadieri" (1961) by Mario Bonard; "Il giorno piu` corto" (1963) by Sergio Corbucci, the "western" film "Il giorno dell`ira" (1967) by Tonino Valeri, along with world-renowned actresses of this genre, Lee Van Cleef and Giuliano Gemma, etc. He also performed in several musical films with Albano and Romina Power in "Il ragazzo che sorride" (1968) and "Pensando a te" (1969). Sanson has also been a performer in films called "cinema d'autore" but also here appearing in secondary roles in A. Latuade's "Il Capotto" (1952); "Siamo tutti assassini" (1952); "Anima nera" (1962); "Il profeta" (19680 by Dino Risi; "Il conformista" (1970). At the beginning of the 70s, after a TV show in 1972 of RAI "Le aventure del barone Von Trenck", and with a role almost in a "thriller" movie "AAA Massaggiatricella presenza offresi…" (1973) by the director Demofilo Fidani, Sanson definitely abandons her artistic career. At this point, her "molodramas" are from the 50s reviewed and re-evaluated again by the cinematographic critic. In the mid-70s he found himself in an economic difficulty and continuing with long problems with Italian taxes, so much so that he needed the expensive villa together with all the furniture. luxury in Appia antica, to be auctioned. She starts working as a translator in the Greek Embassy in Rome In the last years of her life, Sanson leads a modest life, refuses to appear in public and moves to Bologna to stay close of his daughter Gianna, an architect by profession. He changed his life at the age of 77 on the night of the date change, July 23-24 last year. 2003. Next to her in the last moments, her only daughter and a group of her friends and relatives.
