Bashkim Hoxha
Journalist, screenwriter and writer. Holds the title of “Honorary Citizen” of Durres.
Born in Durres on February 2, 1954. Finished his higher studies in journalism, worked for a while as a journalist and later worked as an editor at Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”. Hoxha worked here as an editor of several documentary and feature films.
In 1974, he wrote the script of the documentary entitled “With songs and dances for a great life”. Meanwhile, he wrote a total of 10 documentary film scripts, among which: “Plant and land” (1975), “Fierze `78” (1978), “The boy fights, the old man fights, Mujo Ulqinaku fights” (1979), “Mosaic” (1982), “Iron Roads” (1983) etc.
At the same time, he worked as an editor and wrote screenplays for feature films such as: Hearts that do not grow old (1977), A difficult journey (1977), In every season (1980), Bullets to the Emperor TV (1984), A small delay (1982), Chronicle of a Night (1990).
He spent some time again as a journalist and secretary of the collegium “Voice of People / Zeri i Populli”.
In 1991, he immigrated to Italy, where published two novels while also working as a journalist. Director of the private television station “Teuta” in Durres and continues to deal with literature.
Hoxha also wrote a drama for the theater troupe “A. Moisiu” in Durres, which was a success at the Festival of Theaters in November 1997.
This drama “Love song with ravens” was also awarded with a prize for dramaturgy. In 1999, he shot the television feature film “Frozen Waltz in Pristina”, as screenwriter, director and co-producer.
From the hand of the writer Bashkim Hoxha came a series of works such as: “Heroes of Viagra’s”, “Romance in the day of crime”, “Lakuriq”, “Ground Zero” (“Witness of the Desert”), “Hotel Balkan”, “King of Dew”, “Bad Weather for Love”, “Foul Words of Love”, “The Other Man”, “A Lolo and a King”, “Me and Mephistopheles” (drama), “Invitation to Court”, “Love Song and ravens”, “City without love”.
The novel “Balkan Hotel” and the novel “Ground Zero” are also published in English by Wheatmark (Arizona, USA). Bashkim Hoxha in his creativity stands out for original findings and interesting perspectives.
An important feature is the interweaving of theatrical and film techniques with literature. Literary criticism has characterized him as a writer who belongs to postmodernism.
Also, Bashkim Hoxha is known for his morning show “Time to wake up”, in which he communicates with some TV viewers about problems in general since 1997.
On June 30, 2010, the President of the Republic Mr. Bamir Topi awarded him the title of GRAND MASTER in a ceremony where his comedy “Travel without a visa of an alien” was also premiered.
