Thoma Peska (1938-2014)
Actor of the founding generation of the “Zihni Sako” Theater, Gjirokaster
He was born on September 5, 1938 in the village of Labove where he finished the 8-year school. After finishing high school in Vlore, he returned to Gjirokaster, where he began his activity as an amateur in the city’s stage.
On November 28, 1968, he was one of the 6 amateur actors chosen to create the professional theater of Gjirokastra. In Tirana, he finishes a 1-year course in the Studio near the Teatri Popullor with teacher Kadri Roshi. For graduation, he was given the role of Lenin, for which he worked with Lazer Filip.
He returns to the stage of the Girokastra theater where he performs for 25 years in a row with about 60 roles, of which 30 are the main ones and 15 are the second ones (not forgetting episodic roles in different cinematographic films).
Thus, we can mention the main roles: “Kurbeti” by Cajupi or “Vatra e huaj” by Ndrek Luca, which were a great success at the Festival of Professional Theaters in Shkoder. A main role that has been immensely liked not only by the public of Gjirokastra, Fier, Tirana, but also by specialists and literary critics (such as Miho Gjini, etc.) has been the role of Trush Marine in the drama “Fundi i sinoreve”, authored by Maku Penny from Fieri.
Later, the roles of Mato Gruda in the drama “Njeriu me top” by Dritero Agolli, of Piro Shpirag in “Muliri i Kost Bardhit” by Jakov Xoxes, of the Franciscan priest in the drama “Gryka e Namun” by Kol Jakove, the director of the drama “Drita” by Mimika Luce, etc., etc.
The last two dramas he played before retiring are, “Sold Cradle Song” and “Erashka”. During his artistic career, he worked closely with the theater director of Gjirokastra, Bernard Kokalari, but also with other great artists such as Pjeter Gjoka, Dhimiter Pecani, Piro Mani, Mihallaq Qilleri and many, many others.
Thoma Pesha, in addition to the contribution and realism of many skillfully interpreted roles, has also contributed as an assistant director, in many different premieres set on the stage of Professional Corporal Zihni Sako.
He passed away on February 16, 2014.
