Thimi Filipi
Pioneering generation actor of theater and cinematography. Among the first to create the Partisan Theater. He holds the high title “People’s Artist”. In 1986, he received the “Aleksander Moisiu” award and on August 5, 1991 (postmortem) he received the high title of People’s Artist with the motivation: “Stood out for his special merits as a stage and cinematographic actor in the creation of a series of interpreted roles with high artistic master and for the precious help he has given in the development of these genres of our national art”.
Born in Korce in c. 1926, during World War II, will take part in the partisan formations where he works and creates the first theaters. After the war, Filipi worked in the Korce hospital, also attending an acting course. His first roles will be in non-professional troupes in the city of Korça, then in 1954 starts working as a professional actor at the “Andon Zako Çajupi” theater.
His first role will be in the drama “The Flower of Memory / Lulja e kujtimit”. Further, a series of roles would continue that would make him very popular among the local and Albanian public as well.
Filipi realized a total of 85 roles, mostly with a dramatic character, roles of layers coming from the village, figures of strong people who represented Renaissance ideals, etc.
We can single out the role of Bato in “Sons of Bato Gora”, Xhelo in “Maro Mokra”, as Delo in Ruzhdi Pulaha’s “Perballe vetes”, the role of Zeko in the drama “Zeko Shkoza” and awarded with the “Aleksander Moisiu” award as the best actor at the Festival of Theaters in 1986.
In cinematography, his career extends longer and voluminous, where he will perform in more than 30 feature films and television.
His first role in cinema will coincide with the first, entirely Albanian cinematography, “Tana” – 1958 in the role of Party Secretary.
Other roles would continue, portraying different characters, men, honest villagers, patriots and people at the crossroads.
We can single out that of Neziri in the film “Coping”, Fahredini in “The Man with the Cannon”, Xhemal Struga in “Face to Face”, Nashua in “Like All Others”, Gramozi, the Chairman of the Investigative Group in “Nothing is Forgotten”, Irena’s father “Spring did not come alone” etc.
Thimi Filipi passed away on July 1, 1990. For his artistic merits, on August 5, 1991, he was honored with the high title “People’s Artist”.
