Teodor Siliqi (1931 – 2011)
Producer of the Kinostudio film “Shqiperia e Re” as well as national chess champion. One of the examples when art and sport go together!
Born on March 23, 1931. Headed the Artistic High School “Jordan Misja” in the branch of dramatic art by correspondence. In 1956, he started working as a film and Filmoteka dispatcher at the Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”. Worked in the feature film sector since its creation in 1956.
Produced the first Albanian feature film “Tana” (1958) as a producer. In addition to chronicling and documentary films, until 1972 he directed the shooting of the films “Our Land” – 1964, “Silent Duel” – 1967, “The Umbush” – 1968, “The Bronz Bust” – 1970,
“Captain” – 1972.
Siliqi spent several years as the head of the production department for documentary, cartoon and feature films and in 1984 he returned as a producer, making 10 more films until 1991: “Who dies on foot” – 1984, “First Voyage” – 1984, “Endless words” – 1986, “One more life” – 1986, “The Tracks” – 1987, “Signal of love” – 1988, “Shpresa” – 1988, “Student’s father” – 1988, “Alone” – 1990, “Enigma” – 1991.
The Head of the Production Department gave a visible help in the organization of the production of films of all genres as well as in the preparation of the framework of this field.
His lifelong hobby has been the sport of chess, which he practiced with virtuosity, participating regularly in many national and international chess events and being declared a Master of Sports. It should be mentioned that in 1948, he was also the national champion in chess.
In 1966 he published the first chess book in Albania entitled “The Game of Chess” as well as the other book “Our victories with the chess players of the five continents” (1980).
Siliqi retired in 1991. Then he emigrated to Cleveland (Ohio), USA. Passed away on March 3, 2011.
