Vangjo Kosta
Tenor, lyrical soloist, author and interpreter through the sounds of individualized stage characters.

Born on March 25, 1934, in Korça. From a young age, he has been involved in the musical life of his hometown. Until 1959, Kosta was an activist in the amateur movement in Tirana and Kuçova, as a singer.

Meanwhile, in 1960, Vangjo was awarded a scholarship to pursue higher studies in canto, at the Conservatory of Sofia, in Bulgaria, in the class of the great Bulgarian pedagogue Bromorov, (unfortunately only for one year). After the interruption of his studies, for already known reasons, he returned to his homeland and continued his studies at the state conservatory of Tirana, in the class of master Mihal Ciko (founder of the canto department), where he graduated in 1964, with very good scores.

A year after completing his studies, Kosta was appointed to the Opera and Ballet Theater, in the department of lyrical soloists, tenor.
He worked in this theater until 1988 (the year he retired). In addition to working as a lyrical soloist, Vangjo Kosta has also been active as an assistant director and director, thus staging several stages works, including operas, operettas, various concerts, etc.

The concert repertoire of this tenor is wide and varied, including arias, romances, concert pieces, songs, processed folk songs, etc. This repertoire has materialized in hundreds of concerts debuted on the stage of TKOB, on Albanian and foreign stages, such as Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, China and beyond.

In addition to his activity as a lyrical singer, Vangjo Kosta has also made his contribution in the field of canto pedagogy and for a long period at the Academy of Arts, (in the music department he directed the opera class).

During his activity as a soloist in TKOB, he has performed a number of roles from our and world operas. We can mention here some of them: in our operas we mention “Heroina” in 1967; “Skanderbeg” in 1968; “Women’s Brigade” in 1969; “Groom” in 1974; “Carnival” in 1978; “Commissar” in 1975; “Awakening” in 1986; “Beyond the Fog” in 1977; “The Barber of Seville” in 1979; “Madame Butterfly” 1966 and many more.

He was also active in 2-3 films: he dubs the voice (when singing) in the role of Nikollaqi in the Albanian artistic film “Carnivals”, in 1980, as well as in two other films: “The Third” – 1977 in the role of the service general foreign secret; “We came from the war” – 1980 in the role of Doctor Halimi.



Vangjo Kosta has been one of the tenors of the opera who has very successfully performed a whole gallery of roles on the TKOB stage, especially those of character.

He has also been active as an assistant director and director in several operas such as Traviata, Carnival, etc.
