Myfarete Laze
The singer was born on November 20, 1959 in Shkoder. She finished the “Preng Jakova” Music School and also the “Luigj Gurakuqi” University for literary languages in Shkoder, the city where she grew up and was educated artistically.
Her family moved to the city of Shkodra from Saranda for political reasons. Shkodra of art, culture, sport, songs, “barcoleta” and humor, very quickly became a second hometown for them. Three children were born here. The parents, with the many problems and difficulties they both went through, raised the children with care and a lot of love. Myfarete being the youngest child was also the most pampered. Since she was little, she dreamed of singing and becoming a good teacher.
Her parents, seeing the passion and inclination she had for music in general and canto in particular, encourage her to attend the “Pioneer House” where her talent stands out. Myfarete Laze was only 10 years old when she went on stage for the first time at a Children’s Festival that took place in Shkodër, exactly in 1968, with a song composed by Xhavit Ujkani.
Her father in 1972 was fired from any state job by the communist regime for political reasons. The family lived on one salary of the mother. This burdened Myfarete’s childhood and adolescence both spiritually and materially. How many dinners without bread, with only 2-3 glasses of water. The family spent the long evenings without television discussing the festivals they saw at the neighbor’s house, books, the theater, the variety show, basketball matches, as his father took her to the Sports Palace to watch the basketball and volleyball matches.
In addition to talent and passion, her success was greatly helped by the artistic and cultural life that characterized the city of Shkodra. Myfarete Laze grew up among people with great spirit and humor, among the stars of song such as Marie Kraja, File Gjeloshi, Luçie Miloti, Naile Hoxha, Bik Ndoja, Ibrahim Tukiçi, Xhevdet Hafizit, Klotilde Shantonja who interpreted the first Albanian opera in the “Summer Theater” , “Mrika”, and many others. In 1979, after many successes in Shkodër, she participated for the first time in the “Song Festival”.
It’s the 19th “Song Festival” at RTSH, Leti (that’s what her relatives and friends call her) was still a young girl who would face the Albanian song giant Vaçe Zela and many other talented singers. She sings the song “Our illegal friends”, composed by Mr. Agim Prodani, orchestrated by Alqi Kareco and written by Xhuliana Jorganxhi, where she was Vaçe Zela’s stage partner. The song won First Prize. At this festival, she sings “Under the olive wreath” composed by Enver Shëngjergji, written by Xhuliana Jorganxhi. This song won the Third Prize. For her there were two joys in one festival.
Being a very good soprano, her desire was to continue her studies in canto, but for that “blemish” in her biography, she is not given the right. This is how she studies Language and Literature. The person who helped her and dedicated herself the most to her talent was the canto professor at the Artistic School “Prenkë Jakova”, Mr. Ferit Bala.
Myfarete Laze has collaborated with the country’s best composers and poets, perhaps because of the uniqueness of her voice. Among the composers we mention Tish Daija, Avni Mula, Agim Prodani, Limoz Dizdari, Kujtim Laro, Flamur Shehu and poets Zhuljana Jorgaxhi, Xhevahir Spahiu, Gjok Beci, Agim Doçi, etc.
Thanks to her talent and the artistic and cultural assets that the citizens of Shkodra gave her, Myfarete Laze has been honored with an award in every festival she has participated in. It has participated in 17 festivals and won 13 awards, it has been a member of the “Spring Concerts”, the “Festival of Performers” and has always been appreciated by the juries.
She was honored with the award “Česk Zadeja”, “Naim Frashëri”, etc. She is married to Mr. Zenel Vekshari, very successful basketball coach.
Myfarete Laze is considered one of the most successful singers of the 60s-80s. She continues to be part of the scene giving us emotions and pleasure. Recently, she has made some beautiful creations and collaborations for various artistic and social activities. One of them, which has already become a tradition in the city of Shkodra, is “Flower Day”. This working group also includes well-known people such as Isa Alibali, Ritvan Karakaqi and Ahmet Osja. She currently lives in Tirana.
