Gjoni was born in Shkodra on October 28, 1926. He studied music at the Academy of Arts in Prague in 1957. At a young age, Gjoni stood out as a talent and contributed as the leader of many different orchestral and vocal formations in the city of Shkodra. With an obvious sensibility and originality in composition, he created in 1946-1947 a series of unforgettable songs that stand out for their sensitivity, both poetic and sincere, figurative and noble, such as “Lule bore”, “Sy larushes” , “Syte e tua si drita”, “Fyelli i cobanit”, “Nana dhe cika”, etc.

It was precisely these songs which furthered the civic tradition of the Shkodra lyric while they spread with the speed of light in Albania. Simon Gjoni, is one of the first conductors of our symphony orchestras of the Opera and Ballet Theater and the Albanian Radio-Television.

In 1958, when he was appointed conductor at TOB, many outstanding works found their “first” interpretation in the young conductor, who interpreted them revealing their emotional charge with a high sensitivity. The ballet “Lola”, “Laurencia”, the operas “Don Pasquale”, “The Barber of Seville”, “Pagliacci”, “Franceska da Rimini”, “Spring”, etc. are mentioned.

In addition to other activities as a conductor and composer, he also composed the music for the feature films “Special Task” – 1963; “Our land” – 1964.

He also composed songs for Festivals in RTSH, among which we can mention: “This side of Bistrice” – 1974 in the 13th edition; “In Koman between friends” – 1983, 22nd edition;

He passed away on October 31, 1991, just a few days after his birthday!
