Shyqyri Sako, the Albanian film painter!

Film and costume painter in the Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”.

Born in Kolonje, Korce, on March 5, 1937.
Completed his higher studies at “Jordan Misja” at the High Institute of Arts for painting in 1955. In 1958 – 1961, attended higher studies at the Moscow Cinematographic Institute (VGJIK) for painting and film scenography and finished them in 1962 in Tirana at the Institute of Figurative Arts, the year when he began his activity at the Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re” until 1997.

As a costume painter, stood out for the most realistic treatment of clothing, to bring the time and social, economic and national differentiations, inclined stronger in respecting the state without forgetting the ethnographic elements of the tradition. These were seen in the films: “Special Task”; “Our land”; “The first years”; “Light Commissar”; “Oshetime ne bregdet”;

With the film “Open Horizons” (1968), Shyqyri Sako takes on the role of set painter, whose creativity extended to many other films. In the period from 1968 to 1994, he made about 39 films, including: “Guerrilla Unit”; “Captain”; “Operation fire”; “White Roads”; “Alleys the sought the sun”; “The last winter”, “From the middle of the darkness”; “Following the tracks”; “Mesonjetorja”, honored with the Award for scenography; “Radio station”; “The good man”; “The end of a feud”; “The phone of a morning”; “Cave of pirates”; “Rapists”; “Plasticine bullet”;

With the experience as a costume designer and painter in the scenography treatment and exteriors of the films where he was involved, Shyqyri Sako brought typical environments for the time, he took care of creating the atmosphere for the benefit of the historical and vital truth of the films. Shyqyri Sako has also worked in different genres in painting, mainly portrait, landscape, calm nature in oil paints, as well as works in graphics, watercolor, etc.

Sako has participated in 13 national exhibitions since the first one, 1955, held 9 personal exhibitions in Albania and Ioannina in 1988, including 1 of the latter painting the Albanian film in July of last year. 2019. Also in Switzerland in 1997, Italy and Belgium in 1999.

For his valuable work, he was honored with the title of “Merited Painter”
