Ndrek Prela (1920-2011)
“Merited Artist”, Actor of the “Migjeni” Theater, Shkoder, one of the veterans of the first generation as well as of Albanian Cinematography.

He was born on March 20, 1920, in Tivar, Montenegro, in an Albanian family. He spent his childhood in Argentina, where his father had emigrated for economic reasons, and from there his family moved to Shkodër. Prela is known for his successful career in theater and cinematography, one of the founders of the theater “Migjeni” in Shkodra.

Ndreke`s life is full of important events of the theater and especially of the theater of Shkodra. He has performed dozens and dozens of important roles and everywhere his figure has stood out, soft, sweet and with pathos.

Ndrek Prela played over 400 times the role of Gjelosh Nika in “The Cartridge in Dowry”, over 150 times the role of Ramiz Çula in “Blerta`s Case”.

Ndrek Prela has left outstanding figures, even in Albanian Cinematography in many other roles. N. Prela made his stage debut in Shkodër in the late 40’s and quickly became one of the most popular actors. Until he retired, he was present in almost all the stage works of the theater troupe of Shkodra, with different and varied roles.

In 1963, he debuted in the cinema with a secondary role in the film “Special Task”, to then continue with other films, such as “Commissar of light”, “At the beginning of summer”, “There is life in the snowy forests”, “The emblem of the past”, “Balloons”, “Autumn reproaches”, “the Militant”, “Ballad of Kurbin”, etc.

Although a performer of secondary roles, Ndrek Prela has been able to create a special artistic profile, with interpretative skills and carving roles that remain in the mind. Such are the grandfather in the movie “Commissar of Light”, uncle Rizai in “At the beginning of summer”, Xhiko in the movie “There is life in snowy forests”, etc.

He passed away on October 14, 2011, in his apartment in the “Skënderbeg” neighborhood of the city of Shkodra. Prela’s family members say that “besides advanced age, the reason for the acceleration of his death was a fracture that he suffered a week before as a result of losing his balance on the stairs of his private apartment. Playwright Fadil Kraja is expressed thus, the day when Albanian Cinematography lost its pioneer. “Today the Migjeni theater is smaller, because the oldest Albanian actor died at the age of 91.
