Bashkim Kozeli
Playwright, screenwriter, writer
Born in Erseke, on February 28, 1942. Completed his higher studies at the Faculty of Meteorological Engineering, in Moscow, in the period 1960-1961. Worked in the military in a series of tasks in the field of defense, up to the director of the Directorate of Culture and Press in the Ministry of Defense (1992-2001).
Some of his plays have had a well-deserved success, such as: “Friends” was staged by the “People’s Theater” (1969), by the “Petro Marko” theater in Vlora (1968) and also by the “Zihni Sako” in Gjirokastër (1969). “Si u kaliten” was staged by the “People’s Theater” (1975).
In the drama “Lidhur si fisheke gjerdani” that was staged by the theater of Vlore in 1980, is treated with dramatic sense and patriotic pathos, a key moment in the history of the Albanian people, like that of the Vlora War in 1920, intertwined with the sharp problem of overcoming the division between Albanians. The drama “Red Signal / Sinjali i kuq”, in the theater of Vlora (1971) and the “People’s Theater” (1973), had great success.
With this drama, which is regarded as his most successful, the interstate political conflict between Albania and the former Soviet Union was presented. The patriotic spirit, the gallery of characters, the dramatic dialogue and the raised tones, sometimes even pathetic, stand out.
Bashkim Kozeli is an author who creates situations that go to the edge and strong conflicts, with prominent political and social aspects, where dialogue gains weight. He has also written the plays “Ask the Mountains”, “History Knocks”, “Battery Commander”, “Smiles of an Evening”, “Immortality”, “The Fugitive in Europe”, “War Kills, Peace Forgives”, “When Mother Tereza was Gonxhe”, “Who is the terrorist”, “The white crow”, etc. as well as several film scripts such as “In the name of freedom”, “After the last meeting”, volumes of poetry, books of a historical and journalistic character, etc.
In 2008, he wrote the screenplay for the television series “The pain of love”, where sharp social problems, human alienation, hypocrisy, lack of security and morality are reflected in a difficult time, often dominated by violence.
