Profile of composer Tahsim Hoshafi (1928 – 2008)

Tahsim Oshafi is one of the veteran composers of Albanian music who made a great contribution in this field.

Born in Tirana on February 20, 1928.
Completed his studies at the High Institute of Arts as a composer in 1966. Oshafi worked near the Central House of Popular Creativity and at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

In the period 1978-1988, led the amateur ensemble of the Textile Factory in Tirana. From 1952, also debuted as a composer, creating and formulating about 200 choral, soloist, romance and ballad songs, instrumental and orchestral pieces.

Oshafi took part in 26 Song Festivals in RTSh, in the May Concerts, in song festivals for children and others. Even after he retired in 1988, continued his creative work as a composer and within a short period of time composed about 20 symphonic orchestral works for the Albanian RTV orchestra and other district orchestras, including the military brass band.

In addition to other musical activities, has also composed the music for 8 Albanian feature films, mainly in the films shot by his brother, the director Fehmi Oshafi.

It started like this with “Kapedani” (1972), “Thirrja” (1976), “Deshmoret e monumenteve” (1980), “Shoku yne Tili” (1981), “Dritat e qytezes” (1983), “Enderr per nje karrige” (1984), “Melodi e panderprere” (1985), “Pas takimit te fundit” (1990).

Meanwhile, his contribution to the Song Festivals in RTSH is worth it. His name as a composer is immediately found in the 1st Festival, 1962, with the music of the song “Happiness” and text by Luigj Gurakuqi.

It follows in subsequent festivals in other compositions as below (from 1963 – 1990):

16th Festival / 1977 – “Your father was my friend”
17th Festival / 1978 – “Wedding in the days of freedom”
18th Festival / 1979 – “Little Partisan”
19th Festival / 1980 – “First September”
20th Festival / 1981 – “The newest station”
23rd Festival / 1984 – “Your written page, my ancient land”
24th Festival / 1985 – “Next to you”
25th Festival / 1986 – “The sailor and me”
27th Festival / 1988 – “So long”
