Petraq Xhillari (1943-2014)
Well-known Albanian theater and cinematographer.
Born in Përmet on June 11, 1943. From 1965 to 1969 attended the Artistic High School for Painting. Then after entered the studies for actors where in 1971 he was appointed to the National Theater staying here until 1993.
After a period of 22 years, Xhillari has about 50 roles in this artistic institution. Among the most successful roles in the theater we mention the roles in the drama “Man of the Depths”, Thani to “Prometheus”, Arseni to “After the last exam”, The cemetery guard to “Who brought Doruntina”, Malua in “Lady from the city”, Spiceri in “Romeo” of Juliet”, etc.
In 1995 he opened the first private theater in Albania, “Cafe Teatër 1”, in a hall with 90 people, in which 4 stage works were staged , where the parts “The epic of soup” and “On the second floor is heaven” are the most successful.
Due to the continuous lack of funding, the theater was drowned and thus he could not keep it for long.
Xhillari will also be remembered for his interpretations of characters in films, about 12 roles in cinematography, among them “General Gramophone”, “Man with Cannon”, “Guest” and “Dawn of the Great Season”.
Xhillari returned to the cinema in 2008 with a film called “Watch”.
He was one of those actors where he stood out in small roles.
He performs many secondary and episodic roles, managing to portray interesting characters. His playing was noted for its dynamics and energy, accompanied by an expressive gesture and a believable, almost natural manner of behavior, as can be seen in the performances of “Arturo Ui”; “The general of the dead army”; “Under the stage lights”; “The Great Flood”; “Communists”; “Pomegranate flowers”; “Furnace”; “Face yourself”; “Monserrat”; “Prefect”, “Prometheus” etc.
Petraq Xhillari passed away at the age of 71 precisely on December 27, 2014.
