Born in Durres on March 14, 1962. Graduated from the High Institute of Arts in 1987, and from this year onwards he was an actor in the theater “Petro Marko” – Vlore.
Astrit has been an actor who performed in many leading roles, among which we can mention, as Leonardo in “The Wall of Silence” by Paolo Messina (1990), Iliri in “SoS in hotel” by Ferdinand Hysi (1991), the constructor in “Sacrifice” according to the novel “Bridge with three arches” by I. Kadares (1997), the other in “Out the door” by Wolfgang Borhet (1993), the hero in “Before the traffic lights” by F. Hysi (1999).
Precisely the role of Micara in “Oh my kidneys” by Babis Cikliropulos (2003) gave a humane dimension, harmonizing the clear and painful spirit with the old-fashionedness and wit of a Moscow shepherd.
Astrit Mamaj tends towards comedy, mostly operating with plans of irony as seen in Paflagoni in Aristophanes “Knights” (2005), Krroci in Ugo Bet’s “Corruption in the Palace of Justice” (2005), Vatleni in “Slightly Married” by George Feidos (2006).
With the role of Algernon Mokrif in Oscar Wilde’s comedy “The Importance of Being Ernesto” (subtitled The Importance of Being Honest…) he won the “Best Actor” award at the 2007 “Apollon” Acting Festival in Fier, where he performed a dynamic temperament and an accurate self-consciousness, in accordance with what the author’s work and style offered, creating an independent character, a redeemed, adventurous, open, sharp and intelligent person.
While with Anik in the show “The killers we left behind” by T. Laco, he was awarded the “Best Actor” award in “Flame of January” (2008) in Gilan, Kosovo, with which he met the rough sides, sneaky and aggressive man of coolies and occult Masonic power.
Astrit Mamaj is an actor who moves in two planes, comic and dramatic, not infrequently also in the lyrical one.
