Reshat Arbana
Prominent actor, one of the Icons of Albanian Theater and Cinematography. Holds the highest titles “People’s Artist” and “Nation’s Honor”!
He was born on September 15, 1940 in the city of Tirana. In 1965, he graduated as an actor at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” High School of Arts (today the Academy of Arts) and began working at Radio Tirana as an editor of pioneer and youth shows.
Until 1974, he will continue working in Radio as a director and then as the editor-in-chief of “Pioneers and young people”.
This year he leaves Radio to join the “People’s Theater” troupe (today the National Theatre). Until 1991, the year in which he left the Theater, he would perform over 50 roles in various dramas and comedies by both Albanian and foreign authors. Here we can mention the plays “Bashke me agimin” by Kol Jakovo, “Besa e madhë” by Sami Frashëri, “Duke u gdhire viti 45” by Teodor Laço, “Furnalta” by Ruzhdi Pulaha, “Gjëmimi i atij dimri” by Teodor Laço, “Komunistet” by Ruzhdi Pulaha, “Arturo Ui” by Bertold Brecht, “Vizita e Inspektorit” by Pristli, etc.
He will return to the stage of the National Theater in the role of the protagonist in the drama “Refuge of the Forgotten” by Ruzhdi Pulaha. His most recent role in the Theater is that of Xef Kalni in Tom Murphy’s “Whistle in the Dark”.
In cinematography he will play over 35 roles. The first role played by him will be, while he was still a student in 1963, in the film “Commissioner of Light”.
Later, various roles would continue where we can mention the role of Sami Amen in the film “Threads to be cut”, the role of the Prefect in the film “General Gramophone”, the role of Isa Boletini in the film “Second November”, the role of Ahmet in the film “Warm Hand”, the role of the Turkish Bimbash in the film “Freedom or Death” and many others.
For the role of Dajlan bey in the film “Who dies on foot” and for the role of the Chairman of the Council in the film “When the doors of life open” he would be awarded with the Festival Medallion respectively at the VI Albanian Film Festival held from October 1 to 5, 1985 and at the VII Albanian Film Festival held from April 13 to 18, 1987 in Tirana.
For his artistic merits, Reshat Arbana has been awarded the high title “People’s Artist”.
On October 7, 2011, the President of the Republic, Bamir Topi awarded Mr. Reshat Arbana the “Honour of the Nation” Order with the motivation: “To the outstanding actor of theater and cinematography, who with his masterful interpretation and originality became very popular artist dear to the public, whose roles have enriched the national culture with new values.”
On November 26, 2011, at the “November II” concert organized in the context of the week of Albanian culture on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the declaration of Albania’s Independence, the Albanian Association in Parma, Italy “Scanderbeg” presented the award “Skënderbeu – Albanian Diaspora in Italy” to Mr. Reshat Arbana awarded on behalf of 24 associations and subjects in Italy with the motivation: For the extraordinary personality, artistic quality and inspiration with which he interpreted roles, stories, events, enriching them with the humanity and culture that characterizes him forever. The award was presented to him by the organizer of the “Scanderbeg Parma” association, Mr. Durim Lika
