Pjeter Gaci March 27, 1931 – March 27, 1995
Prominent composer / “People’s Artist” / violinist and classical music teacher. He was a lecturer at the Artistic Lyceum and then at the Higher Institute of Arts. Started his artistic career as a violinist and became the founder of Albanian violin music.
Gaci reached the peak with the composition of the song, as in
“Për ty atdhe” and “Gryka e Kaçanikut”.

March 27 marks the birthday of the Shkodran music master and at the same time the unfortunate day when he passed away.
Born in Shirq, Shkodra on March 27. Completed his primary education in Shkodër. Gaci started his violin studies at the Artistic High School
“J. Misja”, in the years 1948-1952, to continue at the Moscow Conservatory “PI Tchaikovsky” from which he graduated in the spring of 1967.
In 1967, he became the director of the Tirana circus, Estrada and the Puppet Theater of the city. In 1970, became a freelance composer and after 1976 he finally settled in Shkodër, where, in addition to composing, he also took care of the violin class at the “P.Jakova” artistic high school of this city.
Gaci is credited with having composed the first violin concerto in the history of Albanian music, the first ballad for violin and piano, as well as being a member of the first instrumental Trio (next to TOB, 1956).
The main trend in his creativity will remain vocal music, in which he has left unforgettable examples of works from song to opera, such as the opera “Our Land”, “Beyond the fog”, the cantata “O moj Shqipni, e mjera Shqipni “, “Per ty atdhe”.
In addition to other musical creativity, he also composed the music for 6 feature films, starting with “Special Task” (1963); “The Ambush” (1968); “The Explosion” (1974); “When the masks come off” (1975); “Footprints in the snow” (1984); “Postponed wedding” (1985).
In 1989, Pjetër Gac was awarded the title “People’s Artist”.
He died on March 27, 1989 in Shkoder.
