Nikolla Zoraqi (1929-1991) Composer, People’s Artist!

He was born in Tirana on January 24, 1929. Zoraqi is among the composers who have given a great help during his career and with many values in the development of our Albanian music. Well-known composer, author of many dramatic pieces for soloist, choir and orchestra, many ballads, operettas for children, along with 6 overtures, 6 concertos for violin and orchestra, 4 ballets, 30 operas, etc.

He tried almost all musical genres, from song to opera, from instrumental miniature to concert, ballet and symphony. In all these genres there were important achievements.

His works have been played by important Albanian music formations, by the TOB Orchestra, the RTSH Orchestra, etc. His musical creativity includes many fields at once, almost in all musical genres, as it was more or less said above from the processing of folk songs, light songs for children, symphonic music from small instrumental pieces to rhapsodies, concerts and symphonic poems.

He is the author of great stage works, operas and ballets such as: The ballet “Cuca e maleve”, “Rhythm and feeling of the worker”, “The story of a song”, “Invincible land”, “Shota and Azem Galica”, “Joniada” , the operas “Commissar”, “Paja”.

As it usually happened in the period when he created, Zoraqi paid special attention to the creation of a music with a pronounced national character, to the creation of Albanian characters and important national figures. Here we can mention works such as “Commissioner”, “Shota e Azem Galica”, “Cuca e maleve”, “Gjergj Golemi”.

In addition to other musical activities, he also composed the music of feature films: “First Years” – 1965; “Silent Duel” – 1967; “Maiden of the mountains” – 1974; “After the tracks” – 1978.

He also made a contribution to the Festivals in RTSH, taking part for the first time as a composer in the 3rd festival of 1964 (see the tab below).

He is the winner of the first prize of this festival in v. 1969 with the composition of the song “Birthday Gift”, and in 1970 with “The House where the Party was born”.

He passed away on November 9, 1991.

At the Song Festivals in RTSH, he composed the following songs:

1964 / Fest. 3rd – “E thur sot këngën time”
1966 / Fest. 5th – “Kenga jone e re dhe Nenave shqiptare
1967 / Fest. 6th – “Me e reja komuniste shqiptare”
1969 / Fest. 8th – “Dhurate per ditelindje” (winner) dhe “Me lart frymen rrevolucionare” (3-rd prize)
1970 – Fest. 9th – “Te pres ne tetor dhe Shtepia ku lindi Partia (winner)”
1973 – Fest. 12th – “Marshon Shqiperia”
1976 – Fest. 15th – “Kenge per Tiranen” (3-rd prize)
1978 – Fest. 17th – “Me Partine ne cdo shterngate”
1980 – Fest. 19th – “Nen yje prisnim vitin e ri”.
