Llazar Siliqi (1924-2001)
Writer, well-known poet and screenwriter! B
Born in Shkoder on December 16, 1924. The son of the patriot and Albanian Risto Siliqi, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Shqypnia e re” which started publishing at the beginning of the 20th century.
Siliqi took an active part in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Movement and was interned by the German Nazis in the Concentration Camp in Pristina.
He completed his higher studies in Moscow at the Gorky Institute near the Union of Writers and Artists in the Soviet Union. he is engaged in poetry from a young age, from the school banks starting from the time of the war.
After the war, he held various functions in literary bodies as Secretary of the League of Writers for Literature. He wrote many poems, prose the most notable of which was the one titled “Prishtina”. Siliqi is the author of the libretto of the first Albanian Opera “Mrika”.
Llazar Siliqi was closely connected with cinematography from the beginning and wrote several scripts for documentary and feature films.
He is the author or co-author of the script in about 10 documentary films and two feature films. Among the scenarios of the documentary films that have resonated the most, we can mention: “Glorious Road” – 1952 / “Light on Albania” – 1958 / “Blosom Albania” – 1959 / “Revival” – 1961 / “Lumja ti moj Shqiperi” – 1978 / “Ndre Mjeda” – 1966 / “The Militant writer” – 1984.
Collaborated in writing the script of the joint feature film “Fortuna” (1959) and wrote the script of another well-known film “Commissar of Light” – 1966.
Siliqi passed away on May 28, 2001 in Tirana.
