November 29, 1924 – January 30, 2011 Merited Artist / “Naim Frashëri i Artë” Order. Theater and cinema actress as well as Albanian singer.

Born on November 29, 1922 in Gjakova. Due to the Serbian violence against the Albanians in Kosovo, the family moved to the city of Skopje, where until her family built their own house, she lived in the family of Mother Teresa (Honor of the Nation), who took care of little Liza herself. At the age of 6, Liza started school at the French college in Skopje, where her talent will be noticed either as a dancer or as a singer in the shows given by the college’s artistic group.

In 1932 her family moved to Tirana. In 1933, she enrolled in the female institute “Nana Mbretneshë” in Tirana, where she studied until 1940.

She started her artistic activity as early as 1939 as a singer on Radio “Tirana”. In 1940, for her talent and wonderful voice, she won a scholarship from the state to study singing in Italy.

Vorfi began her studies at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome, where she also studied canto and ballet. After that, she studied canto for two more years at the “Giacomo Rossini” conservatory in Pesaro.

In 1943 Vorfi returned to Albania. After returning from, she resumes her work at “Tirana” radio as a singer, adding popular songs to her repertoire. In addition to the song, she was also active with a group created on the radio, which gave parts of dramas, “Orë gazmore”, directed by comedian Pjetër Gjini. It has also been active since the war years in various stage parts that were shown in the “National” cinema or the “Kosova” cinema.

In 1945, she began working as an actress in the Professional Theatre, which was the core of what would later be called the “teatri Popullor” (today the National Theatre). The National Theater considers Liza Vorfi as one of the most popular and noble actresses of this institution that has been an acting school for different generations.

Her first role in the theater is in the drama “Gjido”, then her roles would continue in the comedy “Noble Bourgeois” by Moliere in the role of Dorina, “Cuca e maleve” by Kolë Jakovo in the role of Marta, “The Servant of two lords” in the role of Beatrice and many others.

Although she retired on March 15, 1976, she did not leave the theater, so on May 26, 1977, she will perform her last role in the “Teatri Popullor”, the role of Mara in the drama “The Great Flood” by Kole Jakov. Also, her roles have been followed by art lovers in the interpretations in the films: “Furtuna”, “The Debatik”, “Commissar of the light”, “The alleys seeking the sun”, “Poppies on the walls”, “They were four”, “We came from the war”.

Thus, in cinematography, her first role will be that of Aija, the villager who helps the wounded partisan, this role, episodic, in the film “Furtuna” in 1959, then other roles would continue, such as the role of Dava in the movie “Commissar of Light” in 1966, the role of Nebi’s mother in the TV movie “The alleys seeking the sun” in 1975, the role of the host woman in the movie “They were four”, etc.

Her last role was in the movie “Enigma” in 1991.

For her artistic merits, Liza Vorfi was honored with the title “Honored Artist”. On July 11, 2009, the President of the Republic of Albania Mr. Bamir Topi will honor Liza Vorfi with the Order “Naim Frashëri i Artë” for her artistic activity. (when she was at the ripe old age of 86 and she had retired for more than 40 years, so the order “Naim Frashëri i Artë” in her advanced old age seemed meaningless) Liza Vorfi, the icon of elegance and finesse of the fifties quietly left this life on January 30, 2011.
