Lec Bushati (1923-1996)
Actor of the “Migjeni” Theater, Shkoder and at the same time a veteran of Albanian film acting.
He was born on July 10, 1923 in Shkodër. As a student at the city’s Saverian College, he performed in the plays “Prince of Drishti” and “Track”. He finished his studies at the two-year Institute “Aleksander Xhuvani” and then at the High School for actor “Aleksander Moisiu” in 1964. Bushati is among the first actors of the theater “Migjeni”. Until the beginning of the 50s, he performed with the theater group of the Shkodër “House of Culture”, under the direction of Andrea Skanjeti, in several plays, such as: “Under the Chestnuts of Prague”, “The Russian Issue”, “Portrait”.
With the drama “Nora” he started his career as a professional actor, enriched with other successful shows such as: “Greed”, “The Tyrant of Padua”, “Servant of Two Masters”, “Doll’s House”, “Optimistic Tragedy”, “Lies with long legs”, “Investigation”, “Blood of Arbri” etc. He has played over 150 roles, many times for the first time, mostly of epic, dramatic and tragic nature.
He was among the actors liked for positive figures, as well as for strong antagonists, who created scenes, dialogues and beautiful dramatic situations, in conflict with the heroes and their interests. Lec Bushati has brought to life characters from social and national historical dramas in the dramas “Seven shaljanes” by Ndrekë Luca, “Nora” by Andrea Skanjeti, “Cuca of the Mountains” by Loni Pape, “Swamp” by Fatmir Gjata, “Përkolgjinajt” by Kolë Jakove.
He stood out especially with the role of Tuç Maku in the drama “Our Land” by K. Jakovo (1970), where he emphasized the heavy, authoritarian and rude nature, with slow speech, pointing gesture and “measured” attitude, taking care for the preservation of a garment and shadow of a compassionate, parental and related person with Leka, Murashi, File, etc.
With the role of Luciani in Serafin Fanku’s drama “Birth in the storm”, he gave life to a complex figure, thanks to the intertwined semantic planes and opposites that complemented each other, as well as silences filled with implications and ambiguous situations.
In an epic-dramatic style and format, he later played the role of the mountaineer Bale in the drama “The Destruction” (1978), as well as that of the wise old man, the thinker and the voice of consciousness of the tribe of Arber in the drama “Blood of Arber” (1981), both by Fadil Kraja.
His actoresque interpretation was emotional, generally in low tones, with long pauses filled with emotion, realizing ethnopsychology paradigms widely liked by the public. He had a deep voice, fixed eyes, he moved well through the dramatic situations of the characters, at the crossroads to choose and predetermine their fate or their expected path; it was imposing and elegant from a plastic point of view.
Bushati played with the light and shadows, contrasts and the camouflaged and mysterious part of the characters, which kept the internal spiritual tension of the game elevated. With the role of Kadri Bajraktari in the drama “Baca i Gjetajve” he further enriched his acting master with another image, now embodying a “negative” figure, that of a grumpy and vengeful man, who was also treated by a realistic and natural view.
He also acted in several Albanian films of Kinostudio and TV television: “Special duty” (1963), “The valley of the shooters” (1970); ” The Third” TV (1978); “Days that brought spring” (1979), where he played the main role, that of Vuksan Sadria; “The Uninvited” (1985), the role of George’s father; “The Fall of Idols” (1977), captain; “The living wall” (1989), the wise old man, etc.
He held the title “Honored Artist”. Lec Bushati passed away on September 16, 1996. ___________________
