He was born on July 19, 1926, in Bajze, Malësi e Madhe.
He completed primary and secondary school at the “Illyricum” Gymnasium, at Frančeskaneve in Gjujadol Shkoder. From this time he displayed unusual musical gifts. There he also met Father Gj. Fishten, Father A. Harap, etc. He was chosen for his voice by r Martin Gjoka and after him, by Filip Mazrreku, a musician. He sang in the choir of Friar`s Church. At the end of 1945, Father Mati Prennushi, the Provincial of Friars, informed Luke’s father to take him to Malesia, because he was in danger of being arrested. As the artist himself said: “From a piece of field between the mountains, from Bajza and Kastrati, Luk Kaçaj would also go down to the school of the fathers and thanks to his voice he would become part of the choir of Father Filip Mazrek, Father Martin Gjoka and Prenkë Jakovës, along with those names who founded Albanian music such as Česk Zadeja, Tonin Harapi, Simon Gjoni, Tish Daija, etc. The Franciscan teachers, metaphorically, were bringing the mountain closer to the sea in a city school, said this in the language of Koliq.

Luk Kaçaj quickly caught the eye and was sent to study at the “Tchaikovsky” conservatory, where he shined incomparably on various stages of the world. Very early on he had to bear the burden of comparison with the great Shalyap, or “Albanskij Shalyap”.

In the Belkanto course, the Albanian Luk Kaçaj, the Bulgarian Nikolai Ghiaurov and the Russian Sasha Vedernikov stood out”. After liberation, in the years 1947-1950, he worked in the General State Choir and the Army Ensemble as a soloist and chorister.

In the years 1950-1955, he completed his higher studies in canto at the PI Tchaikowsky Conservatory, in Moscow, and in that year he was appointed a soloist at TOB. Meanwhile, since the time of his studies, Kaçaj was also active in several international activities, receiving awards. In TOB, he neatly performs unforgettable roles from Albanian and world operas, becoming one of the most popular and favorite artists in Albania. In 1966, he was appointed a canto teacher at the High Institute of Arts and made his valuable contribution to the preparation of the new generation of singers. He played two roles in cinematography, in 1953 that of the blind old man in “Skenderbeu” and in 1969 “Why does this drum beat” in the role of Gjon Marashi, a conservative father of the bride, Katrine “who had broken the Canon Law”. This career was interrupted in 1973, when Luk Kaçaj was imprisoned.

He got out of prison in 1991 and continues to be active in the Albanian musical life. Lukë Kaçaj changed his life on September 7, 2001 in Laç.

After his death, the President of the Republic, Bamir Topi, gives him the “Honour of the Nation” decoration. _____________
