Bujar Lako (1947-2016)
Actor of Albanian Theater and Cinematography

Born on May 9, 1947 in Lozhan, Korçe. In 1972 he received his diploma at the High Institute of Arts and immediately after a year he became an actor in the “Teatri Popullor”.
In the Theater he has performed in about 70-80 roles, among which in the plays: “The Bear” by Chekhov, “Monserati” by Emanuel Robles, “Day of Summer” by Mrozek, “The Undertaker”. “Death of Danton” by Byhner. For his skill and artistic values, in 1982 he will be awarded the Order “Naim Frashëri” of the First Class. In the cinema, he will have fewer roles performed, about 20. His first role in the cinematography will be that of Misto in the film “At the beginning of summer” in 1975, but the role that will make him known to the general public will be that of Martin Kreka, the Secretary of the Party, in the film “The Cope” in 1976. This is also the role for which he will be honored with the “Special Award” by the Jury of the 2nd Albanian Film Festival.

Bujar Lako will later have masterful performances in the films “General Gramophone” (1978) and “Face to face” (1979) respectively in the roles of Halit Berat and Mujo Bermema.

The interpretation in the role of clarinetist Halit Berati will show the public that Bujar Lako’s artistic maturity had reached high levels. His masterly and theatrical execution in the film “Gjeneral Gramafoni” in two well-known popular pieces such as the popular songs “Song for Çerçiz Topulli” and “Qiraxhiu i Grebenesë” will remain in the public’s mind, which give the impression to the public that behind the clarinet is Bujar Lako himself and not the Grand Master, the People’s Artist, Laver Bariu.

For this role, he was awarded the Festival Cup as “Best Actor” at the III Albanian Film Festival that took place in Tirana from April 21 to 28, 1979.

At the IV Film Festival Albanian held in Tirana from April 20 to 26, 1981 was awarded the “Special Award” for the role of Mujo Bermema in the film “Face to Face”. For both interpretations, he would be awarded the First Class Republic Award.

His interpretations would continue further in the films: “The Second of November” in the role of Luigj Gurakuqi in 1982, in the film “Warm Hand” in the role of Spahiu in 1983, in the film “The Decision” in the role of Councilor in in 1984, in the film “The Telephone of a Morning” in the role of Nestor, the Director of the farm, in 1987, in the film “Murder in the Hunt” in the role of Ferdinand in 1987, to come in 1989 in the masterful interpretation of the role of the General in the film “The Return of the Dead Army”, a role for which he will be awarded the “Best Actor” Award at the 9th Albanian Film Festival held in Tirana from November 12 to 17 1990.

In 2005, the interpretation of the role of Petros in the film “Magic Eye”, for which he would be awarded the “Best Actor” Award at the International Film Festival in Cairo (Egypt) on September 12, 2005.

His latest will be in 2009 in the movie “Honeymoon” in the role of Rroku.

We also find Bujar Lako in the role of announcer in Aleksandër Peçi’s musical compilation “Albanian Mourning” dedicated to the “black year 1997”.

In this summary, Bujar Lako recites parts from the “Epic of Gilgamesh”. This compilation will be the first presentation of modern Albanian music in North America. His son Bojken Lako, in addition to being a well-known singer for the Albanian public, will also be the director of Mary Chase’s comedy “Harvi” where he will play the role of Elud Pi Dodi.

Bujar Lako holds the title “Merited Artist”.
