Ilia Xhokaxhi (1948-2007)
Painter, scenographer, film costume designer of Kinostudio!
Born in Tirana on August 28, 1948. Xhokaxhi completed the High Institute of Arts for visual art. From 1973-1975, worked at Albanian Radio and Television as a scenographer. In 1975, started working as a costume painter in Kinostudio, making 12 films such as “Beni ecen vete”; “Lume drite”; “Perballimi”; “Shembja e idhujve”; “Dollia a dasmes sime”; “Gjeneral gramafoni”; “Mesonjetoria” film that was awarded with a prize for the components – 1979; “Deshmoret e monumenteve”; “Gracka”; “Kercenimi” etc.
While as a film painter, he made his first film as a co-author “After death / Pas vdekjes” and until 1994 also 9 other films, “A name among people / Nje emer midis njerezve”; “The uninvited / Te paftuarit”; “Killing in hunting / Vrasje ne gjueti”; “Rough shore / Bregi i ashper”; “Years of waiting / Vitet e pritjes” honored with an award for components; “Man’s death / Vdekja e burrit”; “Obituary”; “The Night / Nata”; “Sako’s Wedding / Dasma e Sakos”, a film that was awarded the Cup of the 11th Film Festival for the figurative part; “Funeral business etc.
In the time periods 1991 – 1994, he was teacher at the High Academy of Arts in the subject of Painting.
1997 – 2000 Worked as a teacher in the subject of History of World Art and Painting at the private school of the Orthodox church “Frymë Dashurie”.
2004 resumes work at Albanian Public Television.
Xhokaxhi passed away on May 7, 2007, after a serious and quick illness.

1997 – Participant in the exhibition “Radio Tirana Fax” in Molfeta, Bari, Italy December,
1997 – Exhibition with other artists at T&G Gallery. September,
1998 – Exhibition in Paris, Lucernere, Centes Nationale d’Art d’Dssei.
December, 1998 – Joint exhibition in Tirana, Albanian – Italian “The Mediterranean a common cultural horizon”.
1999 – Joint exhibition in the halls of the Albanian Embassy in Paris. September,
2000 – Architect and scenographer of the grand stage at the Gjirokastra National Folk Festival. November,
2000 – Personal exhibition “Benedictus” at the Gallery of Fine Arts in Tirana. December,
2000 – Scenographer of the decor of the center of Tirana for the New Year’s Eve 2001.
2001 – Participant in the exhibition “Onufri”
2002 – Set designer of the drama “A man at sea”
May, 2002 – Architect of the SYMBOL LIGHTHOUSE in the city of Saranda.
June, 2002 – Scenographer of the ballet “Franceska da Rimini”.
October, 2002 – Author of the personal exhibition: MAKBETH, (This Timeless Mythic Resonance) at the National Gallery of Art.
June, 2003 – Set designer of the modern ballet “Paradox of Life”.
November, 2003 – Set designer of two new films. “Red flowers black flowers”; “Women without Wings”, Canadian film.
May, 2004 – Set designer of the opera “ROOM” by Jean Paul Sartre.
October, 2004 – Author of the personal exhibition: BLASFEM (of the broken dagger) at the National Art Gallery.
January, 2005 – Set designer of the drama “BALKAN EXPRESS”.
December, 2005 – Scenographer of the 44th RTSH festival.
