Gezim Kruja (1939-2020)
Comedy actor, member of the excellent Shkodra variety troupe. Merited artist and great master is also one of the symbolic characters of Albanian humor!

Kruja was born in Shkoder on December 4, 1939. He started his artistic career like no other at the age of 13, in 1952. He has a whole life as part of the Albanian stage and screen. Was on stage for over 54 years, a long and endless artistic life. The actor Gezim Kruja has not completed any specific acting school, he is a stream from the amateur movement and this, on the contrary, has not been an obstacle to reach the heights of Albanian humor, as the spectator who followed him recognized and applauded him for his talent.

Kruja officially started with the amateur troops of the former army in 1958, with the amateur stage when he was a soldier. In 1960, he will become active with the Professional Estrade of Shkodra, his hometown. In 1977 he received the title “Merited Artist”.

Gëzim Kruja graduated in 1979 from the Higher Pedagogical Institute, branch of Language and Literature in Shkoder. Over 2,200 performances are recorded in his career. It is also distinguished in writings. 18 comedies, 10 recitals, 2 film scripts, 3 books with monologues, over 250 skits, dialogues, funny pantomimes are his creativity and without mentioning thousands of other roles in skits and comedies, they are countless and it will take some time too big to mention. Over a thousand roles in various skits and he has been practicing the profession of comedian for 52 years.

 

Gezim Kruja has staged over 70 premieres. He has not left anything undone or untried, dealing with many genres of art, from Circus, Clown, juggler, imitator, etc.

He has performed 10 recitals throughout his long career, 7 of them in Shkoder and 3 in Tirana.

Kruja was a loved character even outside the country. All the Albanians who live outside the country have welcomed him with kindness, in America, Canada, Germany and everywhere. In 1999, he received the title “Pride of the City”. In 2005, he received the title “Naim Frashëri i Artë” and in 2010 the title “Grand Master”.

The Great actor passed away on April 5, 2020, after a serious illness.

It was strangely enough, at the funeral of this artist who was born, raised and formed in communist-socialist Albania, his family covered him with an Arabic flag, because of the religion(?)
