Gazmend Leka
Painter and director of the animated film. One of the prominent names in painting.
Leka was born on October 11, 1953. Completed his studies at the High Institute of Arts for painting in 1978. A year later he began working as a collaborator in the design and realization of the interior of the museum “Gjergj Kastrioti – Skënderbeu” in Krujë, work which ends in 1982.
For some time he was the chief of the editorial staff of the cartoon film near Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”. At the same time, he made the animated films “Ear to Ear” (co-author in the drawings), and the first film as a director-painter “two Feasts”, a film that also received the First Prize in v. 1983 at the 4th Documentary and Cartoon Film Festival.
The film that resonated in different circles was “Bullet in forehead” – 1985, which was also awarded the First Prize in the 6th Documentary and Cartoon Film Festival. He was the chief of the cartoon film editor and with the reorganization he was appointed director of “AlbaFilm Animation” where he worked until 1994.
After that, he became a teacher at the Academy of Arts and became a freelancer. Gazi has been honored with many different awards for his excellent career as a painter since the first one in 1982 – the “Naim Frashëri” Order, third class. In the “National Art Gallery” 37 of his works in painting and graphics are kept. 
Over 400 other works are distributed in private collections in Albania, America, France, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Germany, Holland, Spain, Canada and Japan.
