Florinda Gjergji (1928-2010) One of the oldest singers of the city of Shkodra, but also of our country, who in a married life of 50 years with her life partner, the equally well-known Shkodra singer Ndrekë Gjergji, stood out with her interpretations in duets in many songs that have become hymns for the entire city of Shkodra. She had her first debut on the stage at the age of 18 and following in the footsteps of the well-known singer Marie Kraja, she became one of the favorite voices of Shkodra art lovers. She is also the first Albanian "Mrika", the opera that Prenk Jakova staged in 1958. Hours filled with memories, song lines and titles that bring success. That everyone called him with the charming name Dushi. At the age of 5, he imitated when Marie Kraja sang the song "Dashnor t u bana". Florinda was born in Tirana, as her father worked there. He came to Shkodër when he was 17 years old. After 1945, his father was dismissed from his job and the family was sent to Shkodër. They returned to a father's uncle's son. Life here for the future singer was bad, with many difficulties. The great grief of leaving work, living on a small pension, lead to her father's death. There are 6 children left only with the mother. They were all in school, unemployed and in financial difficulties. But Florinda was lucky. She starts working as a typist at Radio Shkodra. There you will find a wonderful environment, with culture and a very good director, Lumo Mamaqin from Korça. He is of great help by introducing the girl to the orchestra. Since then, Radio Shkodra had its own orchestras. The person in charge was Ndoc Shllaku, an excellent violinist. At that time, the song "Tortullesha", composed by Ramadan Sokoli with lyrics by Qemal Draçini, was a favorite. Thus she sings "Tortu-llesha", but also the song "Ave Maria", which she had learned in church, in front of great composers. This was the beginning of a career that would last more than half a century. Florinda Gjergji was among the first "Mrikat". It was 1958 and the composer Preng Jakova had chosen her together with another singer for Mrika. With a little fear, because she was only 21 years old and didn't know if she would be able to handle it. But for Florinda it was a big dream that came true. Then, through the song, she meets Ndreka, her future husband, who will sing together for the rest of her life. Ndreke Gjergji was tall, with a big tenor voice. Precisely the great Preng Jakova will be the one who will join the voices of both in the song. As a great musician, Mr. Jakova had studied voices. He knew their range, and in fact, their voices were perfect together. This is how the duet Gjergji was born, whose songs are still heard today: 'If we both are together'. The song became the reason for everything. Everyone knew that something would happen between them, as they were getting very close. Then the relationship was made official during a tour in China with the Army Ensemble. Florinda was a 20-year-old colleague, a wonderful family member. The couple now lives only through the song. There is a large tombstone for them written dedication: "Gergji's song rests here". Now the couple is gone. Their memories are longing, an embodiment" The values of this singer are accompanied by many titles, such as "Deserved Artist", the title granted by the Shkodra Municipal Council "Pride of the City" She passed away on August 29, 2010 at the age of 82.
