Liri Begeja
French film director of Albanian origin.
Born in Paris on February 16, 1955. Her father had politically emigrated to France and her mother is French. Graduated from history studies at the University of Paris in 1972, and then the cinema school in 1978.
Began directing activity in the mid-80s. Initially, she was an intern and assistant director for many films during the three years, collaborating with Patrice Chereau, Diana Kyrys, Christian Challonge, Chantal Akerman, etc.
Often the themes of her films are related to the country of origin. Her first film as a director was “Paris Paparazzi”. Later, she made the film “Confrontation” for the FR3 TV series.
“Broken April” was nominated as the first work with “Caeser’s” Award in 1988 and honored with the public’s grand prize at the Locarno Festival, selected at the Telluride Festival, Detroit 1991, honored with the grand prize in Italy and selected as a show for the “Globe Art Award” in San Francisco. “Far from the barbarians” honored with the “Neguib Mahfouz” award at the 1994 Cairo Festival, a participant at the San Francisco Festival and placed in the permanent fund of the Paris videoteche.
