Gjon Simoni (1936 – 1999) Composer, musicologist. Merited artist He was born in Shkodër on February 8, 1936 in a family with traditions in Albanian culture. He became active from an early age in the musical life of his hometown, contributing as an organist in the Catholic church, a contribution which he continued in Tirana. In the years 1962-1966, he studied composition and music theory at the State Conservatory of Tirana (today the Academy of Arts). He graduated with a very good rating. He was appointed to Gjirokastër where he worked in the period 1966-1969 as Head of Music. Then he worked as an editor of music programs until 1980. In 1980 he was appointed Head of the Department of Composition and pedagogue of orchestration at the Academy of Arts in Tirana. In the years 1993-1994, he continues his professional activity in Greece, where he teaches at the music school and private lessons in the city of Kardhica. In 1996-1997 he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Music at the Academy of Arts in Tirana. After 1997 until his death, he served as a teacher of the orchestration course at the Academy. In 1995 he received the title "Professor". He has been honored with various awards and titles including: "Deserved Artist" in 1989. 
Gjon Simoni's musical creativity is rich and varied, it has been played in all important musical activities in Albania and abroad. In the field of theoretical thought development, he has made important contributions both in the Albanian media and in various conferences and seminars abroad. Meanwhile, his contribution also extends to the development and reassessment of the creativity of Albanian composers of the first half of the 20th century. He worked on completing and completing the work of the composer Tonin Harapi. In 1999 he was awarded an honorary degree by the International Biographical Center Cambridge England. He has written many articles and articles, literary and artistic criticism of works in various newspapers and periodicals. He died in Tirana accidentally on July 2, 1999!
