Sokol Shupo

He was born on February 4, 1954, in the city of Gjirokastra. Began his composition studies at the High Institute of Arts in Tirana and then finished by graduating from the Bucharest Conservatory in Romania in 1978.
In 1977 Shupo was appointed a lecturer at the High Institute of Arts in Tirana. He has taught in a number of foreign Academies such as : Sorbonne Academy of Arts, Scuola Cantorum in France and a number of academies in Germany, Austria and Italy. There have been and are many positions that he has held and holds.
Dean of the Faculty of Music at the Academy of Arts. President of the Balkan Music Information Network, creator and President of the Albanian Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music as well as publisher of the “Albanian Music Information Newsletter”, a magazine that is published four times a year with both national and international distribution, Director of the Center European documentation and communication for regional music.
There are also many of his publications, we can mention here the Albanian musical folklore. Encyclopedic Publications, Tirana 1997, as well as the paper presented at the third World Conference of Ethnomusicologists: “The Berat Codex of the 6th century” held in Struga in September 2007.
For his merits in the study of music, Sokol Shupo was awarded the title of Professor of Musical Sciences.
