Tomi Vaso (1939 – 2003)
Title and cartoon operator.
Born in Tirana on April 22, 1939. He graduated from the Artistic High School “Jordan Misja” in Tirana. On September 1, 1957, Vaso started working in the movie title department of Kinostudio “Shqiperia e re” where he worked under the direction of the painter N. Prizreni.
After the latter’s departure as a painter in feature films, he took over the direction of the sector as a cameraman and painter, realizing a large number of magazine covers, documentary and feature films.
In 1974, together with the painter Vlash Droboniku, they went to the cartoon studio in Bucharest, Romania, where they specialized in shooting animated films.
After returning, Vaso shot the first cartoon film as a cameraman “Zana and Miri” directed and painted by V. Droboniku, in 1975, which is also the first Albanian cartoon film. Gradually, Vaso perfected his craft and made a large number of cartoons as a cameraman, while simultaneously assisting in the preparation of the frame in this sector.
Until 1990, Vaso shot about 45 cartoons as a cameraman, including:
“The loss of appetite”; “The Little Driver” and “Doodless / Shkarravinat” – 1977.
The latter won First Prize at the Second Albanian Film Festival, and First Prize at the Third Balkan Film Festival held in Istanbul.
Among other films: “Four photographs” – 1978 / “The running miller” and “Arushi open new land” – 1979 / “The ox and the wolf” – 1980 / “Work is gold” and “The anger of the letters” – 1981; “Incidents of Cufo” and “The Boy of Freedom” – 1982 / “Toci and Poci” – 1983 / “Ant Race” – 1984 / “Elkanah and the Swallow” – 1986 / “Dreams in the Sun” – 1987 etc.

“Water drop”; “Wheat mill” and “Lisharesi” – 1976; “Little Driver” and “Spring Festival” – 1977; “Mirela”; “Eagle and Falcon”; “Action and toys”; “The squirrel helps the friend” – 1978 / “Agroni and the Oil”; “Brave finger”; “Llustra, llustra” – 1979 / “Ants and seedlings” – 1980 / “Vath ne vesh”; “Lies have short legs”; “The Fight for life” – 1981; “The tip of the pen”; “The Aeroplan” – 1982 / “Ilira” and “Anger” – 1983 / “The need helps”; “Strange bravery”; “Magical flower” – 1984 / “When the feathers fall” – 1985 / “Bees and pigeons”; “The last tick” 1986.
