The echo of old Albanian films continues to be heard in great China. They were once a gift of political relations between the two countries, and yet successful with a wide audience. He even sees famous actors, such as Ndrek Luca, Englangina Kume or Elida Cangonji, speak Chinese. It's actually their dubbed voices. They are worshiped figures, especially for the older ones. Although today China is a country with a great development spurt, which has more commercial and almost no artistic ties with our country, the Chinese continue to preserve the nostalgia of Albanian films. Recently, at their request, some of these films have been taken out of the archives to be shown on China's biggest television, CCTV 1. This is also preceded by a TV show, which every Saturday brings "The Nostalgia of Feature Films ". Director Ylli Pepo, who returned from China just a few days ago, talks about this project. His departure coincided with two activities. Pepo was invited to the show "Nostalgia of feature films", but also to make a documentary film about today's China, a continuation of the film "China", which he made 33 years ago.

"After the film "China", the first color film on Albanian Television, 33 years later we were invited to make a documentary film about the changes in today's China. I also made a long interview on Central Television Chinese, in a show directed by the well-known journalist, Jun Zhung Zhu about the nostalgia of Albanian films. The public showed a great interest in them. "Oshetime na coast", were among the most watched films at that time in China, and wherever you went, they remembered these Albanian films that they had grown up with and had seen several times", says Pepo. Also invited were the two Albanian actresses, Elida Cangonji (for her role in the film "Rrugë to bardha" directed by Viktor Gjikë) and Eglantina Kume (in the main role in "Ngadënjim mubi datana", directed by Gëzim Erebara, recently shared by life, to talk about their roles. For Pepo, the Albanian film is experiencing another revival in today's China. While Pepo explains the success of these films with the Chinese audience not only with the fact that Albanian films and those from South Korea were the only foreign films that appeared in those years, but also for their artistic quality, "Our old film made by Viktor Gjika, Dhimitër Anagnosti, etc., leaving aside the ideological limitations, from an artistic point of view was a pleasant film for foreigners as well as in Europe. Suffice it to mention that "Poppies on the Walls" or "Fairy Tales from the Past" have won awards at prestigious festivals, such as Salerno", Pepo emphasizes. Today's cinema is a country of open to developments. Various foreign films are shown in its cinema, while Chinese artists have become known even in the big world of Hollywood. But while old Albanian films evoke nostalgia, it seems that new cinematographic productions are not recognized. "I had the idea that the Chinese public does not already know the new Albanian cinematography. But I say that they show interest if the directors send films to festivals, such as the Sichuan one. This is a job that belongs to the directors and producers. Even broadcasting on television gives it a wider recognition", says Pepo. His film, "China" is currently on the list of those to be shown on China Central Television. Documentary After 33 years, director Ylli Pepo returns to China. The eight provinces he depicted in the first film, "China" were no longer them. Invited to make a documentary about today's China, director Pepo says that today's China was a surprise for him. "Today China is one of the most developed countries in the world. It was a country in full development, also in terms of culture. People had knowledge of the latest news in the world of culture, film, the biggest Hollywood actors, these times have brought out well-known directors and actors in Hollywood", says Pepo. All these changes will be reflected in the documentary that is being made. The documentary is still in its early stages, but the director reveals that "during the 10 days we spent in China, we shot in a city in the south of the country called Shenzhen, which 15-20 years ago did not exist at all, and today there are about 10 thousand inhabitants and is one of the most popular cities for tourism. But most of the filming is devoted to the great preparations that the Chinese make to host the Olympic Games, which will take place in 2008 in Beijing a big job was being done to host athletes from all over the world and new stadiums were being built", – says Pepo. Even before entering the editing studio, Pepo thinks that the title of this documentary will be "China, the return" or " China, reawakening and dream", which best fits the period that the state of China was going through. According to Pepo, the documentary will be shown in Albania and will participate in some of the international European festivals.
