Agim Qirjaqi (1951-2010)
Successful Actor of theater stage and on Movies.
He was director at the same time!
Born on January 27, 1951, in the village of Rehovo in Kolonje. Graduated from the Academy of Arts in Tirana, in 1973. His masterful performance in the drama “Ylli pa emer” directed by Mario Ashiku, with which he defended his diploma, will lead to his starting work at the “teatri Popullor” that year.
On the stage of TK, (National Theater) he will successfully perform around 100 roles, main and secondary, during his career. Qirjaqi started with a small role in “Arturo Ui”. These roles performed, stands out: as Helfeste “Prometheus” ; Haliti “Shadow of the night”; Friar Lawrence in “Romeo and Juliet”; the priest in “The General of the Dead Army”; Juan Salsedo Robles in “Monserati”; Harallambi in the “Kopeshti i Dallendysheve”; Mr. Smith in “The Bald Singer”; The King in the “Museum”; The king in “The king is dying”.
Qirjaqi was trained as a director at the Academy of Arts for one year in 1975-1976. Then, in the years 1978-1981, he worked as a director at TVSH, producing several teledramas, among them “Arturo Ui” and the telefilm “Dorina”.
As a professor of directing at the Academy of Arts since 1977, he has staged a wide repertoire with drama students, including “Antigone” by Sophocles; “Much Ado About Nothing” by Shakespeare to “Endgame” by Becht. At the same time, he did not neglect numerous roles in cinematography, such as: the role of the professor in the film “White Roads” in 1974 or the role of the school principal in the film “Poppies on the Walls” in 1976, which will be awarded the “First Prize” at the 2nd Albanian Film Festival in 1977.
In 1981 he returns in the theater but also without forgetting the cinematography. From this period are the role of Jan in the movie “Apassionata” in 1983, the role of Muço in the movie “Violin Strings” in 1987, the role of Aleksi in the movie “Benches in the park” in 1988 and many others.
In 1989 he left Albania for a two-year specialization in Italy near the theaters: “Piccolo” and “Elizeo” (Il Piccolo Teatro), (Teatro Eliseo).
In 1991, he returned to his homeland, being more active in theater direction, starting with “Richard III” by Shakespeare in 1992 and then continuing with the plays “Fando e Lis” by Arrabal and “The Bald Singer” by Ionesco, which he pronounced in Albanian itself.
With the play “Fando e Lis” by Arrabal, Qirjaqi was awarded the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Award at the 1994 Festival.
His most recent role will be the role of Nardi in the play “Wooden Plate” by Edmond Morris in 2006. Dawn Qirjaqi is also a collaborator and member of the Publishing Council of the “Teatër” newsletter, a member of the boards of the AlbaFilm Studio and the Academy of Arts, co-founder and first president of the National Association of Theater Artists (1992).
In 1996, Agim Qirjaqi, won the title of “Assistant Professor”. In the 2002-2003 season, was the director of the National Theatre. In the 2000s, will play the role of the school director in the movie “Slogans” and the role of Et’hem in the movie “Dear Enemy” respectively in 2001 and 2004.
His last role in the cinematography will be in 2009 in the movie “Provincial Chronicle”.
Agim Qirjaqi passed away from his beloved family on March 28, 2010 at the age of 59.
Holds the title “Merited Artist” since 1989.
