Actor and Character.
One of the sections of this page that talks about special actors who masterfully embodied and interpreted characters, roles that remain in the memory of art lovers and in the history of Albanian cinematography.

One of these characters was that of Robert Camcakizi, the port boy with bad attitude (shfaqje te huaja) in the well-known film “Open Horizons” where he was played masterfully by the actor Shpetim Shemili.

Born in Tirana but raised, educated and formed as an artist in the city of Elbasan, the honored artist Shpetim Shemili, among many roles performed, especially on the stage of the “Skampa” theater, has remained in the memory of the screen spectator with a role of Robert Camcakizi, where, although episodic with 2-3 scenes, thanks to his interpretative skill and the jokes used, he managed to stand out as an actor with excellent skills and will be such in the continuation of his artistic career, especially in the creation of characters , in most cases negative. For Shpetim Shemilin, there are no small or big roles, it doesn’t matter whether the role is negative or positive, so he worked with professionalism to achieve this character that we have today, Robert Camcakizi, that son of Sea port with foreign attitudes, with the “stain” (noten e thyer) in behavior, which was also the actor’s first role in  1968 in the film “Open Horizons”, offered by the great director Viktor Gjika, a special figure who is remembered for his specialness, a character different from the others from the schematic heroes of the realization a person “who has the grade broken in behavior and demonstrates foreign performances”, (he harasses women, dresses in fashion, speaks foreign languages) these qualities of that time where Albanian society, especially the youth, were imposed to be severely beaten and not allowed, since “Flete-Rrufe”, gatherings until the expression “we don’t allow a crooked tree to ruin our place, our youth” etc.

When you look back at the role of Robert today after many years, you can see how this character is dressed in the absurdity of the time, the aim of a system that had chosen to educate the youth with punitive measures that are as funny as they are dramatic.

Coming from the pen of the great Dritero Agolli, and expertly embodied by Shpetim Shemili, the character Robert Camcakizi, sometimes with a key in his hand and sometimes twisting the chain, appears as a guy who owes to others……. because he talks to foreign tourists, loves “unfairly” the same girl as Azemi (model boy that the girls had to choose), or because the way he dresses is different from the others, he was considered an element that destroys our society by demonstrated foreign attitudes?!

However, Robert Camcakizi’s jokes in the film, performed by Shemili, have remained and we will not even be surprised if we still hear them today in people’s daily lives: “Hey my baby, how many nylons bras did you download today?”  / “Over there but Dama Niks”…… “Ain minute “sa te laj duart” or in the dialogue with Dhimiter Orgocka, “Cfare llafi, llaf NISH Gome?”

In this film, the artist from Elbasan, Shemili, plays alongside the confirmed big figures of cinema such as Sander Prosi, Pandi Raidhi, Dhimiter Orgocka, Sulejman Pitarka, Robert Ndrenika.

Between 1968 and 1988, he acted in 13 films of Kinostudio, in addition to acting in theatrical performances, being evaluated with awards and medals.

He holds the title “Merited Artist”, the “Naim Frasheri” Medal and Order, as well as an Honorary Citizen of Elbasan.

Shpëtim Shmili was an artist who left behind not only characters such as Robert Camcakizi but the name of a good man and the figure of an honored and talented artist.
