Dafina, a young educated woman returns to the city to open the first school for girls. She encounters obstacles and intrigues woven by the head of Sanjak, who is looking for different ways to get Dafina out of the city. To stop her efforts to establish the school, the clergy tries to poison and excommunicate Dafina. They burn the school. Her uncle Stefan Bardhi, the warrior Kajo, and the couple who host Dafina help her.
