It is the most dramatic final in the history of tennis! July 6, 2008. The final of the "Wimbledon" tournament is played, between the Swiss Roger Federer, No. 1 in the world, and the Spanish Rafael Nadal, No. 2 in the world. We are in the continuation of an incredible rivalry between the two best in the world at the time. Until the "Wimbledon" final, the two together have won a total of 14 out of 16 Grand Slams. It is the longest game played for a Wimbledon final, 4 hours and 48 minutes. The record was broken in 2019 during the Federer – Djokovic final. In fact, the overall time, due to some rain interruptions, was a final that started at 2:15 p.m. Rafael Nadal won 3-2 on aggregate. It was the last time a final at Wimbledon was interrupted by rain which opens or closes according to special weather conditions. The match, which was supposed to start at 2 p.m., was postponed for 35 minutes due to rain. Then, in the third set, while Federer was leading 5-4, the match was stopped once again for 80 minutes. For the third time, the rain stops the match at about 8:00 p.m. and it was getting dark. By that time, Feder needed 2 more points and would go down in history. Nadal wins the serve and, making no mistake, manages to win 3-2 and out of the evening! For Rafael Nadal, it was a victory in many other respects. He became the third tennis player in history who, within the same year, won both the most important European tournaments, "Wimbledon" and "Roland Garros". after two months, Nadal finally grabs the first place Federer is positioned as No. 1 in the world, for 237 weeks in a row! Until that final, Roger Feder shared the world record of winning five consecutive Wimbledon finals with Sweden's Bjorn Borg. With that final, Federer also lost the chance to become the first tennis player to win six consecutive finals.
