Qemal Kërtusha (1931-2022)
Singer. Holds the title “Merited Artist”
He was born on October 27, 1931 in Durres and received the title “Merited Artist” since 1968, for his great artistic and human values. He quickly became involved in the amateur artistic movement of the city as early as 1946. Then, he became a participant of the Albanian Philharmonic in Tirana and the army ensemble. After finishing high school in his hometown, in the period 1951-1953 he studied singing with the tutelage of People’s Artist Marie Kraja. Then, Kertusha returns to his hometown and joins as an actor in the Theater “A. Moisiu”. 
With the creation of the professional variety show, he passes as a professional singer and gives performances on all the stages of the country. With a unique voice and unlimited vocal possibilities, his range extends from folk music, light music, romances, partisan song, cantata to the most difficult, opera.
In 1962, he participated in the first song festival on Radio, where he was awarded prizes for all three songs; “Femija i pare”, “Vashezo” and “Mos me qorto”. Then follows the awards won in seventeen festivals in a row.
In 1963, he successfully performed and gave the first recital concert with songs from light music festivals. In 1968, he took part in the opera “Sons of Skënderbeu”. He was the winner of gold medals at the variety show meetings in Tirana, Peshkopi and Shkodër. His concerts in Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro were sensational, where he was warmly received by our blood brothers. Qemal`s repertoire includes over 1000 songs sung on our stages or recorded on Radio Tirana. In 2008, he was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen” of Durres.
