Catherine Spaak (Boulogne-Billancourt, April 3, 1945 – Rome, April 17, 2022) was a naturalized Belgian Italian actress, singer, television presenter and dancer. Born in France, she came from a Belgian family that included artists and politicians among its members. Her mother was the actress Claudie Clèves, her father Charles was a screenwriter, her sister Agnès was also an actress and then a photographer, while her uncle Paul-Henri covered the office of the Prime Minister of Belgium. After playing a small role at the age of 14 in Jacques Becker's "The Hole" (Il buco), she made her debut in Italy in 1960 with Alberto Lattuad's "Dolci inganni", which would condition her later roles, centered on the stereotype of an unscrupulous teenager. The same character, with appropriate variations, is found in many films that she plays in the first half of the 60s, such as "Diciottenni al sole", "Il sorpasso", "La noia", "La Calda Vita, "La Parmigiana ", "La bugiarda" and "La voglia matta" where in the filming of this film she meets Fabrizio Capucci, whom she will marry in 1963 and from their union, for a short time, Sabrina, a theater actress, was born . At the same time, "Dischi Ricordi" offered her a contract where the first 45 songs were launched, including "Mi fai paura" (1964) (Alberto Testa-Iller Pattacini); some of these songs (Those of my age, the cover of Tous les garçons et les filles by Françoise Hardy and the Surf Army also known as We are the youths) become hits on the "Hitparade", thanks also to the promotion on the television variety shows on Saturdays evening, where she was often invited as a guest. In 1964 she was awarded the "Targa d`oro" for David di Donatello and continued to work in Italy with the most famous authors and directors, becoming a recurring presence in Italian comedy (L'armata Brancaleone, Adulterio all' italiana, La matriarca, Certo, certissimo anzi … probable). In 1967 she was offered the lead role in Dino Risi's Tiger, alongside Vittorio Gassman and Eleanor Parker, but the role was later given to Ann-Margret. Based on the recent success, Spaak in 1967 also tried to stand out in Hollywood, taking part in "Intrigues at the Grand Hotel", directed by Richard Quine, but the film, despite a prominent cast, did not have successful results. good and experience remained isolated. In 1968, under the direction of Antonello Falqui, he performed "La vedova allegra", a television musical based on the homonymous operetta, but in the sung parts he was dubbed by Lucia Mannucci from the Quartetto Cetra. Her male partner was Johnny Dorelli, whom she would marry in 1972 and with whom she would have a son, Gabrielen, before their separation in 1979. From 1970 she began writing for several newspapers, collaborating with "Corriere della Sera", "Amica", "Marie Claire", "Il Mattino", "TV Sorrisi e Canzoni". In this decade, he again took part in comedies of many genres, from the western (The word of the outlaw … is law!), to conventional erotica (The Story of a Closed Nun), from horror (The Cat of Nine Tails), directed by Dario Argento, in the drama "Te strejte prindre" where she plays the courageous role of a lesbian, and then also participates in the cult comedy "Ferbre di cavallo" directed by Steno. In the 1978-1979 season, she played the role of Rossana in the musical comedy "Cyrano" (by Riccardo Pazzaglia and Domenico Modugno), directed by Daniele D'Anza; in the next season she was replaced by Alida Chelli. At the beginning of the eighties she would still perform in several successful comedies alongside Paolo Villaggio (Ragioniere Arturo De Fanti, insecure banker) and Alberto Sordi (Me and Caterina), and then she gradually rarefied her cinematographic activity. From September 28, 1985 to 1988, he directed the first three seasons of the "Forum" show with judge Santi Licheri, within the "Buona Domenica" show. Author and host of successful talk shows, the most famous of which remains Haremi (more than 15 series for Rai 3), she was highly appreciated by the public for her elegance and sophistication. In the 2002-2003 television season, she was a television presenter on LA7 on the broadcast "The Dream of the Angel", a "talk show" focused on spirituality. In 1990, he returned to the cinema in the last film in which Monica Vitti starred, "Scandal Secret". At the end of her most intense television period, she returned to the cinema there from the mid-2000s – 2010 in numerous comedies. In 2007, she participated as a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" but was eliminated in the third week. In 2015, she was one of the contestants of the tenth edition of the reality show "The Island of the Famous", broadcast on Canale 5 and directed by Alessia Marcuzzi; this engagement was terminated on 2 February following a decision by Spaak himself. Together with Brigitte Bardot, she participated in the appeal to José Barroso for the European Vegetarian Day. Affected in March 2020 by cerebral hemorrhage and ill for some time, Catherine Spaak passed away on April 17, 2022 in Rome at the age of 77.
