Jani Riza (1941-1988)
Actor of the dramatic theater “AZ Cajupi”, Korce and of the Albanian Cinematography. Holds the title of “Merited Artist”.

In 1964, after completing his higher studies at the “Aleksandër Mojsiu” Institute (now the Academy of Arts) for Dramaturgy, he began working as a professional actor at the “Andon Zako Çajupi” Theater in Korça.

On the stage of this theater, he will perform about 40 roles, main and second, becoming one of the most prominent actor in this theater. He had a fierce voice. faithful body, deep self-consciousness of the role. Riza was very distinguished for creating figures from rural areas, rough people, with a strong will, heart and a visible identity of the main character (in the plays: Maro Mokra e R. Pulaha and “Accused City” of T. Laco), but sometimes also naive people, somewhat naive (Dalipi in the drama “Marches”), or deceitful and evil (as in the drama Djemte e Bato Gore by R. Pulaha).

In his interpretative approach, there are also characters who were plagued by doubts and strong fluctuations in receiving the feelings that caused them spiritual upheavals, hidden sorrows, ambivalence (like Halimi in Minush Jeros’s “Te pamposhturit” e Minush Jero, Delua te “Perballe vetes”).

Jani Riza was a successful actor in the cinematography where he performed 15 roles. His first role will be the role of Dalip Kamberi in the film “The First Years” in 1965, which paved the way for him throughout his career to be a favorite of several film and television directors.

Later, many other roles would continue, such as the role of Guri Çoban in the film “Bronze Bust” in 1970, that of Gjezo in the film “Perballimi” (1976), the role of Mete Jazo in the film “They were four” in 1977, the role of Bunac Saliu in the TV series “Dawns of the Great Season”. Precisely this role is considered the most successful and the most powerful one performed by Jani Riza, from where he was awarded the medallion of the 5th Albanian Film Festival.

Other roles can be mentioned such as that of Kico in “Treasure” (1981), Lame Kurrizi in “Nothing is forgotten” (1985), Beso in “Little Encirclement” (1986), Priest in “Three days from a life” (1986). Beso’s role in “Little Encirclement” was his last in the cinematography. He died in a car accident on October 24, 1988.
