Petrit Malaj
Successful actor of Albanian Theater and Cinematography. Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts.

Born in Orikum, Vlore on December 12, 1964. Malaj moved to the town of Bajram Curri, the origin of his father, when he was young. It was in this city that he performed the gymnasium during the time period 1975-1981. Graduated as an actor at the High Institute of Arts in Tirana (1981-1985).

His first film as a performer would be “Autumn Reprimands” – 1981, in the role of Nazmi when he was still a student. After that, he will have almost the main role in every film: “Red Covenant” – 1982 (Petriti) honored with an award; “The Militant” (Touch) – 1984; “Decision” (Petriti) – 1984; “Postponed wedding” (Sokoli) – 1985 etc.

He is appointed a lecturer at the faculty, while completing his post-graduate qualifications. During the years 1995-2000, he attended specializations and professional internships at the “Jacques Lecoq” International Theater School, Paris (France), at the Murcia Theater School (Spain), at the American State Department for Theater Administration and Theater Schools, as well as the organization and operation of schools and theater companies, etc.

In 2004, he was awarded the title “Professor”.

After a long management experience as Head of the “Physical Education” Section, as Dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts (for 10 years), and as Artistic Director of the Theater of the Academy of Arts, Prof. Petrit Malaj was elected Rector of the Academy of Arts as a result of the election process in which the academic staff, non-academic staff and students of the Academy of Arts participated, being decreed on January 8, 2008, by the President of the Republic of Albania Mr. Bamir Topi, Rector of the only public artistic institution of higher education in Albania.

Petrit Malaj is a member of the Board of the National Theater and the Municipal Council of Tirana. For 3 years (2003-2006) he was the Deputy Chairman of the Governing Council – Albanian Public Radio and Television.

Prof. Petrit Malaj is a participant in many periodic European and regional activities such as theater and film festivals, conferences and seminars, masterclasses, various workshops engaged as a participant, lecturer or leader of theoretical-professional sessions (Lisbon, Skopje, Pristina, Udine, Sofia, Sibiu, Badajoz, Lecce, L’Aquila, Pescara, etc).

As a performer, he has been awarded a number of titles, including: the “Naim Frasheri” medal awarded by the Parliament of Albania, the Festival Medallion at the Fifth Albanian Film Festival, the second prize for actors for the role in the film “When the doors of life open”, as well as other diplomas and various certificates for creative and scientific activity.
