Tefta Tashko-Koço (1910 – 1947) Lyric singer / Soprano She was born in Faiyum, Egypt on November 2, 1910. She is known as one of the most famous and outstanding lyric singers for which she was also given the title "People's Artiste" with the highest and most prestigious in Albania. Her father was the prominent patriot Thanas Tashko who had emigrated to Egypt with his whole family there around 1910. The family would lose him in 1915 and will return to Korce in 1921. In Korce we have Tefta's first performances as a singer and June 26, 1926 is held as her first public concert. In September of 1927, Tefta and the whole family settled in Montpellier, France, where she also began her musical studies, to continue them later at the Superior Conservatory of Paris with very promising results. In 1930, Tefta made the first music recordings at the record company "Pathe"-Paris, as a participant in the group of the outstanding iso-polyphony singer Neço Mukon. Upon completion of her studies, Tefta returned to her homeland, where on November 26, 1935, her first concert as a professional singer in Albania was marked, concerts which she gave in most Albanian cities. Precisely in these years, Tefta included in its programs alongside the lyrical arias of famous world authors such as Moxart, Guno, Shubert, Verdi, Donixetti, Pergolezi, Bellini, Puccini, Rosini, etc., and Albanian folk songs, as an integral part of culture. There are about 89 popular songs of all the cities of Albania that Tefta had in her repertoire and about 36 of them she recorded on gramophone records in the years 1930, 1937 and 1942 in Paris, France and Milan, Italy. We already know the facts that Tefta Tashko has collected a majority of songs directly from the mouths of extinct popular musicians of our country. This is also proven by Tefta's participation together with the other famous singer Marie Kraja in the folklore festival held in Florence, Italy on May 30, 1939, alongside famous popular singers and musicians of those years such as Adem Mani, Xhevat Boriçi, Kolë Vjerdha, Taip Kraja, Karlo Pali, etc. In the long list of folk songs sung by Tefta, we would also add the folk songs prepared by the composer Kristo Kono with poems by Lasgush Poradec, such as "Kroi i vashti tunno", or "Kur m vien burri nga stani". In addition to Tefta, we will mention two other outstanding singers in the interpretation of the popular civic song: Jorgjia Filçe Truja and Maria Paluca (Kraja). In 1945, Tefta sang the role of Mimi from Puccini's opera "Boheme" and Rozina from Rosini's opera "The Barber of Seville" with great success in the Belgrade opera. In the last year of her life, she was constantly ill. He died at the age of 37 in Tirana on December 22, 1947. Tefta Tashko was married to Kristaq Koço, with whom they had a son, namely the Merited Artist, conductor Eno Koco.
