Nasho Jorgaqi
Writer, researcher, screenwriter.
He was born in Fier on October 30, 1931 in the family of a lawyer. Nasho attended high school in Shkoder and later graduated from the University of Tirana for Language and Literature. He worked in the publishing house “Naim Frasheri”, the League of Writers and the Ministry of Culture.
From 1957, he teaches at the Faculty of History and Philology of the University of Tirana as an external lecturer and from 1970 as an effective lecturer. Jorgaqi holds the title of professor and scientific degree as doctor of philological sciences.
In 1960, he published his first book, the novella “Dashuria e Mimozave”, to continue further with outstanding literary and scholarly works, such as the novel “Mergata e qyqeve”, the short stories “Shoku”, “The Monastery of Love”, “The Encounter of beauty”, novels “Dreams and Wounds”, “Mother’s Ballad”, “Distant Mail”, literary biographies “Qemal Stafa”, “Emperor’s Assassin”, travelogue books “Far and Near”, “Ways of Emigration”, “Travel with Fan Nolin”, literary studies “Literary silhouette”, “Poetics of the document”, “Esthetics of the Albanian word” etc.
Also various translations by Chekov, Goldsworth and other foreign authors. He is one of the first screenwriters of the Albanian artistic film. Co-author of the script of the first film “Tana” – 1958, author of three film scripts: “Silent Duel” – 1967, “Mimosa Llastica” – 1973, “Tomka and his friends” – 1977, as well as several films documentaries “Qemal Stafa” – 1964, “Noli yne” – 1984, etc.
Jorgaqi was decorated with the order “Naim Frasheri” of the first class and was awarded the Republic Award of the first class. In 1998, the American Institute of Biographies honored him with the Medal of Arts of Honor for the year 2000.
The International Center of Cambridge in 1999 included it in the book: Prominent people of the century. XX. Jorgaqi passed away at the age of 89 on August 25, 2022
