Gjin Varfi Painter, director, researcher. He was born in Tirana on May 14, 1954. He finished his studies at the High Institute of Arts in Tirana for monumental sculptures. He first worked in Albanian Television at the Institute of Cultural Monuments and on August 1, 1984 in the cartoons department of Kinostudio (later Albafilm Animacion). That same year, he made his first film as a painter, "Perparsja e blete" – under the direction of the director Vlash Dubrovniku. In 1986, he made his first film as a painter and director "Si beri gjeti". Later, he shot several other films as a painter and director, such as: "Kercuri" – 1987, "Lion's Skin" – 1989, "After a Fight" – 1990, "Mikesha" – 1991, "Extremists" – 1994, "It Happens also like this" – 1996, etc. His professional skill was constantly growing. He also distinguished himself as a passionate researcher in a previously unexplored field in Albania. Getting into antiquity, he discovered coats of arms from the medieval period and, based on Albanian and foreign experience, began to build coats of arms of our ancient or contemporary cities. Thus, it opened a new window in Albanian painting and culture in general. In 1990 he created the "Heraldic Symbol of the Principality of Arber" and in 1993 he opened his own exhibition "Albanian Heraldry", the first of its kind in Albania. In this exhibition, clerical, family, territorial emblems as well as anonymous emblems are presented. He is the author of the heraldic coats of arms of the city of Shkodra, of the Association of Mayors of the Republic, of the Association of Torture Survivors of Albania, of Albania-Hungary Friendship, of the Laberia, Cameria Associations, etc. For the realization of the drawings and the animation of the film "Pushbardhe Bird" (part five), he was awarded the Medallion of the 6th Albanian Documentary and Cartoon Film Festival. ________________ Albanian Cinematography in activity since 2013 Reference: Encyclopedia of Albanian Cinematography / Toena 2002 / A.
