Merkur Bozgo (1937 – 2017)
Well-known actor of the Albanian theater and cinematography
Bozgo was born in Gjirokaster on March 24, 1937. He finished his higher studies at the University of Tirana, the faculty of literary language in 1971. In the period 1960-1968, he worked as an actor in “Estrade e Ushtarit” and then until 1975 in TVSH, in the culture editorial office.
For a season 1975-1976 he was the director of the Tirana Circus. From 1976 to 1994, he was an actor at the National Theater until he retired. Merkur Bozgo has a long artistic career, he has about 150 roles.
Bozgo started his career with a small role in the comedy “The Prefect”. In the gallery of his roles, we can single out Hasani “From Darkness to Light”; the role of the miller in “The Thunder of that Winter” (1978) by Teodor Lacos, “Love and Intrigue” (1979) by Schiller, Zenuni in “The House with two Gates”; Jovan Bregu “Pallace 176”; Kaso “In the lights of the stage”; Zeman in “Forgotten”; Gremio “The Domestication of the rebellion”; Kostaqja “Holidays Game”; Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” in the role of Sir Tobi, the actor reached his best performance levels.
Even though he retired, he didn’t stop acting, so he continue to portray other roles such as Lapkin Tjapkin in “The Inspector (Inspector) by N. Gogol in 1998, the role of Sadik in “How good did he do to die” (2001). ; Nako to Ilir Bezhani’s “Cursed Guest” (2003); the writer in “Shelter of the Forgotten” (2004) by R. Pulahes; Bakiu in “White Crow” (2007) of Mihal Luarasi; Merkur Bozgo is an actor of comic plan, organic in the scene where the charm of the gesture, the suitability with the figure is striking. Sometimes he also plays dramatic roles where his simplicity and emotional warmth attract attention.
He has also acted in several feature films:
“At the beginning of summer” (1975), the worker who marks the box with gunpowder; “Bloody Land” (1974) as the lawyer; “The Former Emblem” (1979), as museum director; “Dawn of the Great Season” (1981), as Mr. Ali; “Strings for violin” (1987), Koci; “Benches in the Park” (1988), as the director; “Bolero” (1997), as Eveline’s client; “Gjoleka, son of Abazi” (2006), as imam;
The television series “Commune of Paris”, as uncle Rakua; “Bela” TV Serial (2011) as father.
The actor passed away on November 11, 2017.
