Vangjush Furrxhi (1943 – 2001) People's Artist. Prominent Albanian theater and cinematographer. Lecturer at the Academy of Arts and founder of the director's chair at this academy. He was born in Korça on March 24, 1943. Since he was a child, he liked the theater. Then he was often involved in theater games, such as shadow theater, puppetry, cartoons, etc. In the seven-year school, as an impetus for this genesis, he continued to deal with the theater group, showing variety shows or theatrical improvisations. Korça at that time (in the years 1957-1961) had a rich theater tradition. The gymnasium and high schools of the city developed a rich theater activity, even Olympiads and theater meetings. These activities reinforced his desire and passion for the theater, which was ignited in childhood games. Further, this desire matured at the Academy of Arts, where he studied as an actor at the high school near the National Theater in Tirana. And then he would take this strange passion that had taken over his days very seriously. For a long time he worked in Korça, in the "Andon Zako Çajupi" theater (1966 – 1972). At that time this theater had an already consolidated troupe. Well-known artists, led by Pirro Mani, helped the young actor a lot. His commitment, the roles in the theater and in the film that he managed to realize in these times pushed him to new paths with more success. They invited him to play in "The General of the Dead Army", at the National Theatre, directed by Pirro Mani. There he played the role of the priest, a role that will later be remembered by all artists, for the degree of achievement. For a few years, he did not engage in other roles, but only as a lecturer at the Academy of Arts where, together with the director Esat Oktrova, he will establish the director's chair. Then he will work for two years as the deputy minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. After 1980, he was offered many roles, but the screen where Vangjushi threw him was very small, rarely the directors managed to fill his mind. However, even so he managed to play many roles in the theater and in films. And in those roles he also had the most loved ones. He liked roles with problematic philosophical subjects, those that carry the armor to destroy the regressive and the defenseless, that project a future and radiate towards the perspective And, indeed, he chose very rarely obeyed. He did this because he was against the production of mediocrity. He wanted to respect the spectator, not bombarding him with ordinary art. His untimely death will separate him from his family and the art for which he lost everything, but his prominent roles in both theater and cinematography will remain in the public's memory. Thus, we can mention his interpretations in the theater in the drama "Strengata", directed by Drita Agolli, as well as the role of the general in the drama "General of the dead army" by Piro Man. In the cinematography, we can mention the role of Xanini in the movie "Plumba Empadorit" or that of Latif Bora in the television movie "Dawn of the Great Season". For his artistic merits, Vangjush Furxhi has been honored with the high title "People's Artist". He also received a career award for him on August 27, 2011, precisely on the 10th anniversary of his departure from this life. Prof. Vangjush Furrxhi died on August 27, 2001.
